DH agreed with me we can get a new digital. Ours is 4 years old :(

In the 4-5 MP range the Fuji seem to much more affordable than Canons (about $100 cheaper at least). It doesn't appear to be as compact as some of the other ones but not too big of a deal. It's smaller than the digital camera I have now. Amazon has a 5 MP one for $194. It also records very short clips with sound (figured even if the video is not good quality could be nice feature - my friend uses hers a lot).

It sounds like a great deal and what I want in a camera. Any opinions on the Fuji?

One of my concerns is I want something that will not be fuzzy when I zoom or a night.

I have a Fuji Finepix A340 that I bought a couple of months ago at Sears... I lucked out because it was an open box item and I only paid $89 for it! :flower: It's a 4 MP camera, and it takes good pictures, especially outdoors. My GF and I used it when we went to the Opryland Hotel a couple of weeks ago, and the pictures turned out really, really good. As far as at night, I didn't take any pictures then. I guess I'll see if it works OK next month at WDW. :)

From what I've heard (mostly from my sister, who is a professional photographer), the Canons are the best digital camera to buy because of the chip that Canon uses. Other digital cameras can give you grainy pictures, especially in low light. I'm heeding her advice and am planning on getting the Canon SD500 when I find it on sale. At $500, it's a bit steep. But IMHO, your photos are priceless. If you want something in the 5 megapixel range, several of Canon's older models have been on sale recently, since they've just introduced new models. Steve's Digi-Cams is a good place to look for reviews on the web. Amazon.com and CircuitCity.com also have customer reviews on different cameras.

I have a E550 and the photos are great. 6meg zoom is not that much but good. Got my camera for $350 Before this I had a sony mavica CD1000 great camera big zoom I love this one . bad side the camera is big like a 35mm with a zoom. But the disk drive broke and thay said it will cost $280 to get fixed I did pay a lot for the camera but its three years old and at 2 meg the photo came out great just as good as my fuji

No matter what camera you buy you will have to be very steady when taking pictures at night.

Nikons are also very good digital camera. If zoom is important then be sure to look at the optical zoom number not the digital zoom.

Also look to see what type of batteries it uses. Unless you plan on buying a backup look for cameras that allow you to useregular batteries you can pick up in the store.

I bought a Fujifilm FinePix S5100 and love, love, love the 10X optical zoom!

I actually have a Canon, which I love. One thing I love about it is that it takes regular AA batteries, which is much more convenient (IMHO) than having to find special batteries, or having to recharge. It's nice to just run into a store, kwim? I don't know what kind of batteries the Fuji needs, but that might be something you want to consider.

Mine takes 4 AAs. I bought some rechargeable batteries and they last a week in the camera! That's with me just fooling around testing out all the features every day. I'm not sure how long they'd last if I used it for a day at the amusement park, but from all the reviews I read, this camera isn't a "battery hog."

I have a fuji finepix which is several years old at this point (4-5 years)

still takes GORGEOUS pictures...I have felt no need to upgrade

Look at the OPTICAL zoom, that will effect your photos immensley, the digital zoom isn't as important.

Look at what kind of batteries they take, mine takes a special rechargeable, my moms takes AA rechargeables!

I have a nikon, I sold digital cameras and cell phones for 3 years, I would never buy an olympus. Look at how the camera opens, for example I hit the power button and my lens uncovers and pops out, my moms is an olympus and it has a slide door to open and then the lens pops out, I have seen this slide door break off sooooooo many times if you aren't careful. I would HIGHLY recommend a nikon, they are VERY user friendly, if you want one even more user friendly go with a Kodak easy share with dock.

Also look at what type of memory card it uses, I know some cameras (ie sony and I believe fuji) have their own non-universal memory cards that only they make so no cheaper non name brands. My camera takes SD (I just got a 512mb card from walmart.com for $40 after shipping and rebate!), anything that takes compact flash will have the cheapest memory cards, BUT romor has it compact flash may go away (possibly before you are ready to replace the camera again)

One more note on the memory, I say go with something with SD for memory, its a newer technology and a LOT of cameras use it so should you only keep this camera for 2-3 years, your next camera may also take SD, also if you have a PDA (or plan on getting one) or an MP3 player (or plan on getting one) a lot have an SD slot to expand the amount of memory, so the cards you'd buy should you change cameras would still be useful, or at least more valueable in a resale market (ebay)

I haven't heard this rumor... do you have any links for more information? Thanks!

I have had 2 Fujis and they both used SD memory cards.

I really doubt this is going to happen, because all of your professional grade digital SLRs use compact flash cards. This is the de-facto card pros use. Not to mention the card manufacturers keep upgrading the speed and size of the cards. I've seen 4GB microdrive cards.

As far as Fuji cameras go, I have an older 2mp Fuji that I still use on occasion. It takes great pictures, the resolution at 2mp is great to print 4x6s. My only complaint with the entire Fuji/Olympus line is the fact they use the xD cards - the cards are slightly more expensive than your run of the mill CF/SD cards and the prices haven't come down that much because there aren't that many users and manufacturers of it. Also, the memory size of xD cards are slightly lower that CF/SD cards. Whereas CF/microdrives it's easy and cheaper now to get 1GB-2GB cards and higher, xD cards are only up to 1GB.

My questions would be:
What memory card does your old camera use now?
Can you find a comparable camera that uses the same card as your old camera? That would eliminate the need to buy all new cards.
How much manual control do you want in the camera? Do you want one that takes night shots/fireworks?
What's your overall objective of the camera? Do you want a camera you can stick in your pocket? Do you want a camera with a bunch of doodads? How will you be using the camera?

Thanks after a lot of research and reading professional reviews, I think I am considering the Canon PowerShot A510. It is only 3 MP, but the Canons did get better reviews than the Fujis. They are more expensive as well which is why I have to get the 3MP... Keeping it $200 or less. Even though Amazon has the Canon Powershot S410 at 4 MP for only $249 which is a lot cheaper than other places. I will also research the Nikon cameras as well.

I have the Fuji FinePix S5000 and Love it....It works great on auto mode and has several manual adjustments. It takes awesome pictures.

Here is a link to a thread with some of the pics I have taken. Some of them are cropped so you do not get the full picture.

I had a Fuji Finepix for several years and LOVED it. It was easy to use and took beautiful photos. People used to always comment about the quality. My husband bought a Pentax Optio and it is good, too.

Happy Shopping!

I have a Fuji Finepix A210. It's only a 3.2mp but it suits me fine. It takes beautiful pictures and I can get great prints up to 20x30. It also takes the short video clips. Actually it's my second Fuji (my son kinda killed my first one when he was 18 months old) , but it was time for a better one anyway)

I was going to get a Fuji camera but read that it did not do well at night or for indoor shots. I got a Canon A85 instead which has a very powerful flash and takes great pictures. It is pretty easy to use also.
