Can anyone tell me about the flip video camera? DD wants one, but actually I thought it may be good for myself and easier to carry around Disney. How does it work though? How much time does it record? Then, do you upload it to the computer and have to burn a dvd? Is the quality good? Thanks for any input!

I got my son the Flip Ultra 2 for his 13th birthday in August. We went to WDW a few weeks later, and he used it quite a bit. It's as easy and light to carry around as a cell phone.

He uploads most of his videos onto his separate hard drive, and sometimes burns them onto DVDs. I don't honestly know how much video the camera holds; he's sleeping now or I'd ask him for you.

We think it's a fantastic product. The quality of the video is awesome. You plug it into a PC, and its software opens up automatically. It's easy to use right out of the box. You can slow the video down frame by frame to make photographs. He's gotten the best pictures of our dog that way (see my avatar for an example).

Search for the product on youtube, and you'll find reviews and tips on ways to use it. I paid $149 for it back in August. I saw it advertised for $89 during the Christmas season. For that money, it's a steal! The photographs you can pull out of the video are so amazing, it's all you need.

Also, you can upload your videos directly into youtube, which makes them easy to share. So far, DS hasn't gotten into any trouble with his--he's a pretty sensible kid--but I can see how some kids might. :)

after A LOT of research, i decided on the Kodak Zip8.
Both work pretty much the same, but the kodak comes with an external microphone jack, a replacable battery, image stabilization, and records in true high def. Also has a repalcable memory cards.
Have been nothing but pleased so far. Records about a full hour and a half on a single charge.

I bought a flip for my DS for Christmas when 6pm had the $50 deal. I think everything out there now is probably a newer model. I haven't really done anything yet with the video so I can't totally vouch for quality...However, I love it. I'm about to steal the thing. It fits nicely in my purse and I pull it out when we are out and about and the kids are doing something funny. I give it 5 stars for convenience.

In addition, when my DDad was camcorder shopping and looking for something easy for himself, they were really talking up the flip.

Hope that helps.

My son got his last Christmas and after having it for a year he hardly uses it. He uses his cell phone and his Nikkon Cool Pix camera on the video setting.

DH got one as a wedding favor for being in a wedding.

We would not have purchased one had it not been gifted to DH, but we find it fun on vacations. We used it on our honeymoon, although we have yet to upload any of the videos.

Ours will hold 60 minutes worth of video.

The one thing DH wishes we had was the waterproof holder... he wanted that when we were at Typhoon Lagoon.

I bought the High Def Flip a few months ago and love it. It´s easy to use, fits everywhere, and videos are great quality and sound is good too. I can´t remember how much you can upload, but I believe it´s like 2 hours (I bought the type with the biggest hard drive).

Thanks for all the great info...can anyone tell me on either the Flip or on the Kodak one, can you burn it to a dvd on the computer in order to play it in a dvd player? I was reading up a little, and I *thought* it said you could w/Kodak, could not with Flip. Just wanted to double check on that. Thanks!

I can tell you that you CAN with Kodak. I got one for my DD instead of the Flip. I will say that the Kodak is easy to use, but it wasn't as easy for her (she's nearly 10) as the flip. But the video quality is amazing. Oh and the Flip could only hold one hour of video. Her Kodak has a 4 gig card in it. She's nowhere near capacity, and she uses it all the time. It also came with a carrying case, rechargable batteries and a charging unit.

We have a Flip, I got it for DH for Christmas. We like a lot, I wish I had gotten one for myself :lmao:

You can burn any video files from your PC to a DVD, you may need to convert the file type but as long as you have a DVD burner you can burn video files onto DVD.
