I can't stand Citibank!!!! We have a loan with them that has been nothing but aggrevating!!!! It just seems like a never ending on going problem and at this point I feel like we are being harassed!
We pay every month, always have. Two years ago I was running late paying them, it had been a very hectic month. So I get a call from the collection dept. I tell the guy I'll call in a day or two when I sit down to do bills and make a payment by phone. Now I am really stressing because I'm late. So I sit and do my bills, call Citibank and the woman says to me, "You're not late." "How can that be?" I say. "Well you made two payments in July so right now you are current." I breath a sigh of relief and proceed to make my monthly payment. There I was stressing for nothing.
Fast forward, we still have problems with them. My loan is due the 3rd of the month, but have a grace period until the 18th. After the 18th we have to pay a late fee. So I always pay by the 18th (my husband gets paid by weekly) sometimes earlier. Just depends when the paycheck hits. Yet every month I get phone calls to say we are late. Sometimes they like to say we are in default. Hello?????? How can we be in default? Mind you we aren't even 30 days past due!
This month was the straw that broke the camels back. I will admit I was later than usual paying it. I walk into my branch and paid the loan on April 28. Not only made Aprils payment but Mays and almost another whole months payment (just shy $100.00). Two days later I stop by the ATM to give my son spending money I notice the payment posted the same day. I also notice a debit for the same amount of the loan!!!! They debited my account!!!!

did you authorize them to debit your checking account if payment is overdue?

if not, demand that they reverse the transaction.

I had a checking account with them years ago. I closed the account. they kept billing me for a monthly fee to maintain the account.

No I didn't authorize it. I just got a letter today saying that they exercised "Citibank's Right of Setoff" and instructed Citibank to transfer the money from my checking account to my delinquent account.
If an account is not 30 days past due is it considered delinquent? I'm really annoyed that they can call every month to remind me that I need to pay (I don't need the reminder), yet could call to tell me they were going to debit the account.

I've heard of loads of people who have had trouble with them.. My stepdaughter got fed up and paid off her loan - only to receive a new bill from them (quite sizeable) for late charges over the entire length of the loan.. They almost lost out on the house they were buying due to Citibank's nasty tactics..

If I were you I would get a loan elswhere to pay them off pronto..

If you don't, they'll follow you right to your grave, dig you up and demand MORE payments!

In in word, Citibank sucks! I've had a cc from Citibank for almost 20 years and was always on time (even over paying greatly each month.) Then, this past years, finances were a little tight and I was late on some payments (never 30 days). Well, after a few days late, we would get 4-5 calls per day If we weren't there, we'd see their number on the caller id. When we were there and talked to them, they wouldn't let us off the phone unless we made a payment right then. I know i was in the wrong because I was late, but this bordered on harrassment , one time for just about $50. I can't wait until I pay them off. They'd better not send me anymore brochures asking me to get another credit card after that, or I'll have to harrass them.

Unfortunately, they can list your loan as late if they receive payment after the due date even with the grace period. We ran into this situation once with another company and while they wouldn't charge the late fee, they would still report the payment as late. I couldn't figure out what good a grace period was under those circumstances!

As for debiting your account, I would definitely make a fuss about that. They shouldn't do that without your consent!

Our local branch that we do banking with knows we are very unhappy and are at the point of closing our accounts. They set up an investigation (lot of good that will do) and are working on getting a large chunk of the money back to us from the huge payment I made. Remember it posted the same day I made the payment so I couldn't even stop payment.
The bright side is that we only have about 9 months left to pay this off. We are debating on paying it off when we close our accounts. We are both leaning toward doing that.
