Got a rate of $12.49/day. They listed the address as 5301 McCoy Road. How far is this from MCO? Does anyone know if this price is worth the ride from MCO on their shuttle to pick up a car...or should I stick with a co. at the airport?

Thanks,
Jane

Used them in Sept......had no problems with the rental or the car; as with all rentals, look it over before leaving. All in all it added about an hour, total, for the shutlle ride to and from. But they were $50 less than any cos. in the terminal. My gauge is: "would I work for the hourly rate I saved." Since I would work for $50 an hour, I used them. For a savings of $10 for an extra hour, I'd skip it.....anyway, hope that helps.:smooth:

I suggest you do a search on the boards. You will find many that were not pleased with their Payless rental.

McCoy Rd. is not very far. We rent from Hertz and they are on the same road. We are out of the area quickly.

Here is a topic I feel quite passionate about; saving money on car rental. I am about to give payless a ringing endorsement but please believe me that I don't work for them or get any benefit from this other than helping you stretch your buck.

That being said, here we go...

I love payless. Here is my typical rental experience:
2 minute wait after getting bags for shuttle
4 minute shuttle ride to the Payless office
5 minute wait in line if your unlucky, I often encounter no line
5 minute transaction
Once you leave the lot you are actually one exit closer to WDW than the airport.

Here are a couple of other tips:
1. Sign up for their passport club, it saves you another 5% over the rediculously low price.
2. If you read the reports here they will tell you that there is high pressure to get the insurance but rental places make a ton of dough off this insurance and everywhere I have ever rented from asked me about insurance. I didn't think they were any higher pressure than anyone else.
3. I go to WDW a few times a year with just my DGF so I don't need a Lincoln. I always rent the economy car and have never even seen one on the lot. In fact one time they gave me a Mini-van. Typically it is either a Chevy Cavalier or Nissan Sentra. I have rented from them dozens of times and have never gotten an "economy car" so my theory is always rent the cheapest and hope for an upgrade. They will ask you if you wnt an upgrade but say no. If, on the off chance they give you the Suzuki Swift, you can still go and upgrade.
4. I rented from Dollar in September and waited in line for 35 minutes. By the time I got to the counter i could have been half way to WDW if I went Payless. The only reason I didn't go with payless is because the are only opent to Midnight, the only complaint I have with them.

New record for my longest post. Hope it helps!

By the way I have a 6- day rental for late january for, drum roll please...$77.36 including fees and taxes! Rock on!!!

I am thanking all of you so much under my dd's log in name.
(my computer is junk and won't let me log on under JANEW)
SO, PLEASE FORGIVE ME.

A question for Michael623.......I am traveling with 2 eleven year olds. How much room is in the trunk on the smaller cars? We will
have at least 3 large suitcases and carry ons. Also do your just call payless when you get to the airport for the shuttle bus to come and pick you up? I am not from Florida and I do not know my way around. Should I be nervous driving to POP CENTURY?

Thanks,

JaneW

My experience with Payless was also good. They had the best rate at the time that I was traveling. If I remember correctly I did have to call them from the courtesy phone and they told me that the shuttle was already on its way and at which station they would be at. Check in and out was fast and convienient. As for the size of your rental, you will probably only fit 2 suitcases in the trunk and maybe 1 or 2 carry-ons. If its only the 3 of you, you could put the extra luggage on one of the empty seats and between the kids. The drive to any Disney resort is fairly painless. It's about a 15- 20 minute drive from the airport, its only bad if you are in rush hour traffic (early morning and early evening). If traffic is backed up on I-4 get off at the first Disney resort area you come to. Once inside the Disney property you can follow signs to any resort or park and not have to fight the highway traffic.

I would suggest taking 417 instead of I-4. It will get you to WDW quickly but without all the traffic of I-4.

You might want to read my post re: Thrifty and be very careful about the issue of car insurance. In my experience, which is fairly extensive in business and pleasure travel, there is a difference between being ASKED if you want insurance and facing a high-pressure sales pitch from a pushy agent.

That said, my problems have not been with Payless, about whom I know nothing, except the complaints I've read which are similar to ones about Thrifty.

Paying a bit more CAN be worth it.

I actually have had several good experiences with Payless. Yes, I did have to tell them I did not want coverages and insurances, saying I want no coverage, not basic coverage. But most rrental agencies push their coverages and insurances.

Payless is actually on the way to WDW, if you consider the north exit to Beeline to I-4 route a "way". I do and use it.
