Does anyone ever reserve a 2BR and the extra BR goes to waste?

OP back here. Well we broached the subject of a vacation at HHI to DS yesterday. He wasn't as excited as we had hoped he would be. He said it sounded okay, but he really doesn't like the beach. We told him he could just sit around on the balcony and read and watch DVD's, etc. But he still didn't seem that excited. So we decided to just hold off on making that decision. I'm going to go ahead and make a ressie just for a 1BR and if down the road he sounds more interested, I'll see about switching to a 2BR. Another possibility is we've been talking for several years about doing Thanksgiving at HHI. Maybe we'll do that in a year or so an have both DS and DD join us. We'll see.

In our non-DVC timeshares... we often reserve a 2BR or 3BR unit even if it is just the two of us. Sometimes we do that if we know we will get a better view... plus we like the option of inviting friends if we feel inclined. By contrast, we do not do this at DVC because DVC rate difference is quite substantial between the different classes of rooms.
Ditto!

We just had he opposite happen for our upcoming VB stay. We reserved 2 OVIRs for 3 adults and a toddler. So it would be basically me in one of the rooms all by myself. Now I didn't have too big of an issue with it, but when I heard my 2 teenage nieces were going to come I felt it was a better use. I love to be able to share these trips with my family.:goodvibes
