Does anyone ever rent their RV's privately?

Just thought I'd ask since renting from dealers is so pricey and there's very few dealers in our area (southern Maine/ New Hampshire) that do rentals, although we could pick up from the NJ area too since we have family there. Thanks for any info!

If anybody else is like DW and myself, our RV is a member of the family and would not consider renting it out.

She had the pains giving birth and I have the pains maintaining the RV.

I agree with John, it would be like renting your house on a weekly basis.
Having said that I am sure someone out there would be willing to rent their unit out. Finding them would be the problem.
The prices that RV rental places charge are high for a reason. It is easy to damage one if you arent familiar with the towing and operation of one.
IMHO the cost of a rental unit, site, extra fuel etc etc is probably more than renting a FW home.

good luck in your search.

At first I didn't think it was a big deal for someone to rent their RV out, but now I'm starting to understand that for most people it probably is. Plus, the more I think about it, it's probably safer to rent from a dealer anyway in case of anything going wrong. It might be cheaper to stay in a cabin at FW, but for us, it's also about getting to disney since we don't fly and have always wanted to try staying and traveling in an RV...

We couldn't rent or lend our motorhome because our insurance specifies exactly who can drive it.

If it is something you want to do then go for it! Motorhome travel is super fun and easy and you'll love FW--it's addictive! We stayed in the cabins for several trips and then borrowed a travel trailer--no insurance problems with that--and we were hooked! Bought a motorhome after that trip and now we are moving to Orlando to be closer to FW! Quite an addiction and the only treatment is regular applications of peace and quiet and fun! :earboy2:

There are some RV rental places in Orlando that way you wouldn't have to tow a tt far or drive a motorhome from far away racking up the mileage. I would suggest that you try an Orlando company, I've seen alot of these rentals at FW when we go, and just drive your vehicle to Orlando. In our experience, it is a much faster drive not towing a trailer and the gas $$ we save is incredible!
In January we chose to stay at an All Star due to no FW discounts and the gas expense. We would have spent about $700 more taking our tt! BUT, we did miss FW!!!! So in May it's off to FW we go!

We have a neighbor that keeps on hinting that he would love to rent our RV...it ain't going to happen. I do not feel comfortable at all renting it to anybody. My DH puts too much time and money into it and I would never agree to turn over the keys to a renter. There are just too many little things that you need to learn to do to operate it safely. Some may call me stingy, but I see it as just protecting our "vacation home" and investment.

I view loaning an rv like I do lending money or selling a used car to a friend or family......

Just don't do it! Too many things could happen that would cause a rift.

dtsaos: we're renting an RV privately in march and heading down to fort wilderness from long island.

the owner lives on LI, so i'm not sure if that's feasible for you (we're close to NJ :teeth: )

it's a 32 footer with a slide-out extension. the guy's charging $1500 flat fee (no tax/mileage/insurance etc).

i rented the rv last summer and it was great!

email me at scarfire@optonline.net if interested!

I paid less than that for renting the cabin in FW... may be cheaper to rent the cabin for $1200 for 7 days like I did... plus you get maid service.
