Clean their bum? And I don't mean the traditional way...

Our's seems to think that the carpets are a giant roll of toilet paper :confused3

Initially, we throught there was something wrong. Vet said he must like everything neat and clean back there becuase everything else checks out OK. Tell me he's not that wierd.....

Never my cat, but yes dogs. Vet syas they check out ok.

dogs do this alot when they need their anal glands expressed...if this is something that your vet hasn't checked, you might want to have him check.

I have one cat that "scoots". He is a chubby cat so it's kind of hard for him to reach all the way down there to clean really well. He is infamous around here for having dingleberries...thus, he is a scooter. The vet said he is clear of parasites so at least we know that isn't a problem. I just have to stay on dingleberry duty to keep the carpet tidy.

Yes our does...I call him 'Scooter' when he does :teeth:

I hate it when he does that on the carpet but I had to laugh tonight when he was doing that on the deck...I told him to watch out for splinters! :rotfl2:

If he does it a lot, checking the gland makes a lot of sense.

Yes, my slightly rotund maine coon does it. We keep him shaved, so he doesn't get "buildup" and that seems to do the job for him. I don't laugh when he does it, but my DD10 does a great impression of him that sends us all into gales of laughter! She is so talented...must get it from me! :ssst:

Yeah, my pudgy cat does it too...she can't get herself clean real good so this helps her. I hate it because I am constantly cleaning the carpet!

My Maine Coon used to do it before we had her diagnosed with Hyper-Thyroidism. She would have messy stools, due to her levels being out of whack, and it would catch on her fur so this was her way of getting it off. Since we've got her on the thyroid med methimazole we haven't had any more problems with the scooting.

Our cat before he got sick was a licker... but then again the cat used to flush the toilet! We like to think he was "advanced"! :confused3

Yes. But it is my skinnier one, not the fat one, who scoots.

I know vets say it can be a sign of worms, but she is negative.

My little guy does it too. I notice it happens most often when he has little hard ones that won't quite come loose, to put it lightly. DH will hollar "Nicholas had a clinger!" We have white tile floors in the bathroom and its so gross to come in and see a big long squiggly mark across the length of the room, with a little turd at the end. Of course, I'd rather see it on the white tile than the carpet. THAT'S a pain to clean up! As for my big guy, he has no trouble in the loaf-pinching dept. He can really clear a room, if you get my drift. :lmao:

We call that "boot scooting." :rotfl: Our vet said a lot of...ahem...heavier cats can have this issue. She calls it "fat cat heiney." LOL.

It IS gross. . . our cat does that when she needs those glands lanced. She's the only cat I ever had that needed that. I wouldn't be surprised about the hypothyroidism thing, though, she's diabetic and very old. And, she didn't do it when she was younger.

My cat does this too sometimes, and she is also 'pleasantly plump.'

No worms. I guess it's because she can't reach to lick her behind!

My cat is too fat to actually reach his butt! He tries but normally ends up rolling over and cleaning the top of his tail.

Our cat does it once in a while too. It looks like he's on a conveyor belt when he does it. :rotfl2:
