I know he's getting pretty popular but is there anyone else out there that just not get the Duffy thing???

I guess I'm a Disney purist so when I see some random bear and they make a big hype over it, it just kind of kills the magic for me a bit!

It's like i'm zapped into any other generic theme park looking at this dumb bear. I know they have created a whole back story about it in Japan but keep him there!

I guess if there was actually some movie clip from years back showing Mickey with a bear that resembled Duffy I could try to get over it but he just irritates me! lol! anyone else? your thoughts for or against Duffy?

Help me not feel alone or share your reasons why you like him and help me try and accept him into the Disney family. :)

I'm a little confused by Duffy as well. To me, it just seems like a build-a-bear sort of thing that isn't needed in Disney b/c of all the great characters that are already out there!

I dont really care for him, but Disney is in this for the profit. And from what I have heard many people are just nuts over him. And then all the add-ons / accessories they have for him. It's no wonder they pretty much overload you with him.

I also did not get it and was a little sad that the Kidcots were coloring a duffy bear. I was disappointed that there were no little symbols the would get attached to the mask at each country.

That being said, the meet and greet had a cute little queue to meet him with a story book display that showerd the story of him. The pics are adroable with him.

That being said, my girls are a little older so we did not get the request to buy $$$$$ everything that we passed in the stores.

We don't care for Duffy either. Even as adults we enjoyed doing the masks at Epcot & getting decals to hang from them at all the countries at the World Showcase.

nope - not a Duffy fan. Too contrived and as others have said, looks like Disney on the make from Build a Bear. :sad2:

What?!?!? You mean the kiddos don't get the little things from WS anymore at the Kidcot stations? When did that change??

I'm not a fan either. I completely get what you mean about feeling like you're in a different theme park. He just seems kind of generic, or non disney-esque to me.

yes, exactly! I feel like i'm at a six flags or something, there's just something so cheesy about it. Believe me, I am not an angry person, and count all my blessings in life but even the new little meet and greet area... they way they are building him up just irks me. :scared1:

I don't get it either. I didn't know about them changing the kidcot stations. What a bummer!

I wonder if those who do not like Duffy because he's not an "original" feel the same way about Elmo on Sesame Street?

I love Duffy. He's certainly not intended to replace Mickey, so I'm not worried about him :)

hahahaha.... so funny. you know in a way but not really... I do call myself a purist.. i like the originals but I've had no problem with the new additions in movie characters. Showing my age now but Simba, ariel, etc.. were really "new" at one time but I accepted them because they were GOOD additions with great movies attached to them. It just all worked for me.

Duffy is just so artificial and just out there to sell stuff. It's so transparent. No one takes your money better than Disney but they always manage to do it without you realizing it.. I just see through this whole sham.

It did take me a long time to get used to Elmo.. I'm a first generation Sesame Street Kid, born the year the show started! Elmo came so many years after the first characters that he was really "new" to me for a long time. But he fits right in and works well. :) I'm still not over the fact that every can see Mr Snufalupagus yet... he's was Bird's secret friend when I watched and no one else ever saw him so they thought he made him up! :goodvibes

I didn't get it either. Then my then 4 year old fell in love with him and carried his Duffy the rest of our vacation. It's odd because he doesnt get attached to stuffed animals. So as much as I don't get the relevance or story line, Duffy is now a special part of my son's life and Disney World experience.

He was huge in Japan, and not just with children. That's why they brought him here, I guess they thought he might be just as huge. The aggressive marketing is annoying, but I am not the target audience in the US. There are adults who love teddy bears and are crazy about Duffy and his clothing but it's marketed to children in the US. The Japanese were different. The day Duffy went on sale in Epcot there were CMs from the Japanese pavilion buying up the Epcot Duffy clothes to send home to Japan.

If you don't have a child or just love cute teddy bears you are not going to get the point behind the aggressive marketing, it's just going to be Disney shoving a teddy bear in your face to you, using the backstory that he's Mickey's teddy bear to make him relevant to Disney.

My whole family but especially my Dad and I have had a ton of fun making fun of Duffy. It seems more like a random character you would see at a small mom and pop type amusement park. We just don't think he fits with the rest of WDW.
