The question I have is if he is indeed dead wouldn't the Iraqis have made that known to stop further advancement on our part. Wouldn't it have given them the perfect opportunity to say to the allies, "Alright you can stop now, he's dead". It may have been a ploy but they would have been able to stall our momentum
Not if at least one of his sons is alive or some other senior member of his regime. They probably would lose more in morale and support of their own people's will to fight than they would gain by "persuading" us to stop.
