Does anyone else have Hottubphobia?

Ick-- I won't set foot in a hot tub or a pool--way too nasty! People do catch awful diseases from pools but hot tubs are even worse.

I usually only go in my SIL's hot tub(about 1X a year!), but have gotten into the hot tub at BWV a couple of times. I have seen them checking the PH level and whatever else they check everytime I've been by the hot tub - at different times of the day so I believe this is something Disney is very careful about and does several times throughout the day.

Now, that being said, there's no way I'm getting into a hot tub in some of the "cheaper" motels -way too yucky for me! I've never had a problem, but I don't want to take chances.

You have a right to be leary of hot tubs. Me, dh & ds all got a psuedomonus infection last year from one. You get yucky pimples all over your body. That is why chlorine ( or bromine) goes in tubs and pools *and water parks* and although it was not something I knew a lot about it is very common. It can even grow in the scum in drains in jacuzzi bathtubs that are not cleaned properly. The bacteria flourishes in warm water and grows REALLY QUICK - like within a few hours proper chlorination kills it no problem.
I never go in a hot tub or warm pool unless I know it is properly maintained.

Not me, you could not pay me to get in one. I will never forget what my Grandpa called them. Suffice it to say it involved, a type of green soup that you serve hot. Yuck!

I used to use the pools on vacation and I did use the hot tub once but as Iread these boards and have become more aware of the poop and things that float in the water, I stay clear :D

Too funny Gail, it definitely kept us out of them which of course was his reason for calling it that. But it made a last impression.

Wow Gail you don't even swim while at Disney? I've heard of the accidents before but thought they were well taken care of?

Am I wrong?

Well my DH calls public hot tubs egg drop soup. After some of the reports of the goings on at the WL hot tub it is the perfect name. I only go in our private hot tub. You all can have the nasty public ones.

Yea!! Maybe if everyone stays out, then I'll be the only one in the hot tub next month and won't have to worry about anything!!!!!

EGG DROP SOUP!!!! :p ROFLMAO!!!!!!! :rotfl:

I don't like them even if it's a dear friend's hot tub. Just too wierd getting in steaming water with strangers!

Wow! I LOVE hot tubs!! I've never gotten sick or any kind of infection from being in them..... I thought germs/bacteria couldn't survive in very high temps, which is why they need to be heated to at least 102 degrees...?

Here are some links on hot tubs from webmd.com. It does not seem to be as dangerous as some on here make it out to be. Here's a quote: As long as you can smell the bromine in the water, you're OK," says microbiologist Jon J. Calomiris, PhD.

Here is a web link from the CDC on the infection we got -
Hot Tub Rash - Pseudomonas Folliculitis

This type of bacteria actually thrives in warm/hot temps

It is also common for surfers who wear wet suits to get this kind of skin rash from their wetsuits too.

That being said I STILL LOVE to soak in a jacuzzi and would not hesitate to use one at WDW - of course I would never go into to a hot tub that I suspected was not maintained and not treated with proper chemicals.

Also never put your head under water in a hot tub - my doctor told us that is a bad idea

LOL! I work for him!
I was just shocked to see his name here!

My job for many years was, in part, servicing school pools. In my training we learned hot tubs ARE germ factories. Germs grow fast in higher temps (remember, 104 deg water temps won't kill you, so they won't kill germs), also chemicals can get used up quickly in small water volumes (without being too gross, the first little kid pee-pee and the chemicals go bye-bye).

I would never, NEVER use a public hot tub. Personally, I wouldn't use a friend's hot tub either. How many people here would use the same bath water after their very bestest friend just climbed out? Yuck. I’m willing to bet the bacterial count of a single use bathtub comes in lower than a hot tub most any day.

One last note. Please wear flip-flops (or the like) in public showers. Never let your bear feet touch those continually wet floors.

My ebst friend is TERRIFIED of Hottubs..refuses to go in them..but hes a germaphob too...i just think he is intimidated about being in a confined area with stange half naked people.

  :rotfl:

You have a way with words!:p If I didn't ALREADY think hot tubs were gross, this would be thought provoking.....:p :p :p
