Does anyone else get that, you must be crazy look from non DVCers

I'm a single guy who owns , with my mother on the deed too. I explain the whole thing and how it works to dear ole dad. Dad is also my boss at work.

Last year go away on vacation to BWV during summer.

I tell dad this winter I'm going back this summer. He says " AGAIN?" you just bought DVC last year, are you gonna buy it again.

I guess he thinks it cost $22,000.00 for a one week trip to Disney World. Thank goodness mom understands! <G>

 Now he'll think he pays you too much!...tee hee

I get those looks all the time. Usually, those people already think I'm nuts for going to WDW that often. I'm from CT and amazingly, the people that don't understand why I go to WDW so often, have no problem going to the Jersey Shore (which I despise) every weekend in the summer. But "that's different".

We were one of the "shore people" - just once a summer though - after the long, ridiculous traffic and the hotel price increases, we realized it was costing us less to go to Disney more than once a year!!!

I get so tired of being asked, Disney Again?? Why on earth would you buy that timeshare? Non DVC people just don't get it. My family, as most who own DVC, absolutely love everything Disney. I just have to dart back, with their love, oh skiing again, or Oh Vegas again. It is just a matter of what you like to do. If you love Disney and go frequently then DVC is a better way to go, I feel. More economical for my family anyway. If I have 2 heads in the conversation then so be it!!!:)

I get funky looks whenever I talk about Disney and planning and how much we love to go there.

So let 'em scratch their heads and wonder what is "wrong" with us. Less people to compete against when making our ressies ;)

I am so with you!! DH and I have both done financial analysis as part of our jobs, so I think people believe us when we say it's a good deal if you go often enough. I think they just don't understand why we would go that often!! Mind you, most of these people have either never been, or went once as a kid 20 years ago. They don't know what they're missing!! We're bringing some friends and their 3 kids with us in Oct for MNSSHP. I bet they come back converts!! And if not... "Less people to compete against when making our ressies"!! pirate:

I bet a lot of people who say, "You're going again?" think that there's only Magic Kingdom -- with Space Mountain, a few characters and some kiddie rides. :rolleyes1 They probably think we spend our time singing "It's a Small World Afterall" over and over again. ;)

If they all knew the truth about our World.......it would be too crowded.

Some people love to camp -- again and again. To each his own.

What about the comment--"You are going to Disney again? Didn't you just go there. . ." Though now my "little" sister is slightly hooked! She now wants to go with me every 2-3 years now that she has a job. Most people ask what is there to do if you have already been before without realizing that each trip is different than the last. That's fine with me, the less people know the real Disney, the fewer crowds for me to deal with on my trips! Though I now have my good friends' toddlers telling everybody I am taking them--they are 3 and 4--to Disney, just the 3 of us. . . They seem to forget their older sisters and parents are going too. . .

I've gotten the same comments about "Why would you go again? Isn't it the same each time?" To each his own, but why WOULDN'T I want to go somewhere that is so magical and brings a smile to my face every time! :cloud9:

Oh yeah. The biggest problem seems to be that they cannot grasp the concept of points and how they work. It takes a lot of explaining and sometimes the glazed over look is still there. Oh well, I know it is a great value so that's all that matters.

I agree completly! They dont understand them real well, and as soon as you say its a timeshare, they just decide it can be good. I just dont listen and i know its a great deal!

Since my entire family owns a DVC (Parents, Sister), I don't get this from my family. However, our neighbors and people that I work with don't get it. They think we're rich because we go to Disney every year. I've even explained the DVC to them and they lookat me like have 6 heads.

I am glad I started this tread. I knew that 1 way or another we all have shared the same experences with family and freinds. The people I love the most My children and wife and grandkids get it. Of course they do get the benefits. I just find it disearning that people actually give you that look of lost respect for your judgement or how could you possibly want to go anywhere that often. I do understand that concept tho. I have had great vacations other places the first time around, then you go again and the trill of the adventure is not quite as neat as the first time there. Except for Disney I have been there at least 7 times using DVC and each trip is truly a new adventure. Its like going to my own apartment in WDW, how cool is that. It is heart warming to me that there are so many us 2 headed people running around and we have a site like this to talk to other 2 headed people. Apparently 2 heads are better than 1!

I'm single, upper middle-middle aged, no kids and I'm a member. I'm so glad I am, but that's not how I started.

When my sis and her family bought, I thought (but didn't say) they were crazy. How many times can one go to WDW after all? ;) Then I met them down there and fell in love with the place. Ironically, we didn't even stay in her BCV place that time--used a military deal at Contemporary. Next time I went with them, we stayed at BCV.

I went again, stayed at Shades of Green; then again to BCV. It occured to me that the air they pump into WDW addicted me. I bought my SSR home last year and have used it three times. Work friends think I'm nuts, but like so many others have said here, each trip is different.

Maybe I do have two heads, but both are filled with Dis dreams, so let them scoff. I'm where I want to be when I'm at WDW!!!

Get those looks and comments ALL the time! (just had it 5 min ago from a friend). My brother and sister in law joined us in October, and they get it now. They understand that it's not that we are "theme" park addicts, but we enjoy a good resort with all the amenities that are included.

Gee, that's 2 down and 999,999 people to go. Maybe we could do the 6 degrees of separation theory and eventually ALL would understand!

But we don"t WANT them to all understand. Then they'd own OUR homes. Ewww!:rotfl2:

I am glad to see that we are not the only ones that get those looks. :lmao: We just love our membership and wish that we had joined earier! We just love to be able to take the family along and have everyone in one place. I agree with some of the other folks...let's keep this a secret so that we can always get our ressies!:surfweb:

Funny...how people react when you tell them that
you "own" Disney property...It's always..."how far
from DisneyWorld are you?"...then I pause...look them
straight in the face and say..."actually...we own within
DisneyWorld!"...then I get that blank look on their
faces...another pause...then a reaction in their
faces like "I didn't know you could buy inside...why
didn't I do that!"...JEALOUSY! Bring it on!:rotfl:

I am purchasing right now and some not all give me the whole timeshares are not an investment like Real Estate. I say I'm not in it for an investment, I'm in it for 50 years of awesome Vacations at a great price. I also get the whole, there are more places to go than Disney.

That's true and as a Military person I travel alot of places. China Thanksgiving, Guam next month, and Australia in the summer, but even though I have been to alot of places, no where gives me the joy that Disney does.

Whenever I ask my kids where their favorite vacation spot is they always say Disney. I guess I will just live with the so called bad investment and have a great time loving it. Oh yea, most of these people are not very happy.

DVC soon and thrilled with my decision to finally do it. :thumbsup2

Have a great Day!

We get that crazy look all the time. We've only been members for about a year yet we have been to Disney 4 times with plans for a return visit in June and 2 trips in 2008. We just added on again( won't tell anyone. They don't understand why we bought in the first place.) We just say we are going to Florida. If they ask then we tell them WDW. We usually get the "AGAIN!". At first we tried to get family members to go with us. You mention the words timeshare or Disney and that seems to put them off, so we say more points for us. I finally got my side of the family to commit to a trip using the" before we get too old, medically incapable and just too busy" I would like to plan a Disney in Dec. trip 2008. My parents are the only ones still iffy, but they can't seem to plan anything that far in advance.Go figure....They are retired!
Believe it or not I took my husband (then boyfriend) twelve years ago to Epcot for the day. The next year when we were down in Florida, I wanted to go to Mk for the day. My then fiancee's responce was " We have already been to Disney." I told him we hadn't touch the tip of the iceberg with Disney. 8 years later ...guess who thought we should buy into DVC?? You guess it, my husband! Now we are going to be down in Disney for our 10 year wedding anniversary in June. How sweet it is!!!!!! Be patient, most people will warm up eventually. But do you want them to???!!!!

Yesterday, my DH offered his brother and his wife a couple of nights in a studio for next January (during our stay). They live in Boca, so no big travel hassle.
BIL said, "No way..........I hate Disney and I hate rides!" Obviously, he's totally CLUELESS!
Their loss, our extra days    !

I love this! One of the best things I've read! Count us as among the two headed too!

Yeah, I love that whole "AGAIN????!!!!!" comment. However, many times that comment is coming from people who go to Vegas 4 times a year. You gotta love the irony.

For what they've lost at the Vegas tables a year, we get to go HOME for 35 years!!!! :lmao:
