does anyone else feel 'obsessive' about their planning?

I'm another one that works online in a home office and I've always considered myself to be very efficient at it!until now! lol...since discovering the DIS my productivity has gone way down! ...

Some nights, I'll say to dh, 'I'm just going down to turn off the computer' and he doesn't see me again for a couple of hours because I couldn't resist having one more peek at any new posts on the DIS!

Our initial trip to HIFS with a quick visit to MK, has turned into 10 days completely centered around Disney including 6 nights at CBR. :p

I'm on the verge of booking a 7 night cruise plus 3 nights at ASmo for next March (still figuring out how to break the news to dh!) And to top it off, I'm anxiously waiting for the 2005 cruise prices to come out to book another one in March break of that year.

I always thought that I would wait until the kids are older before doing Disney...now that I know so much more, I think 4 and 6 are the perfect ages to go!

You mean you don't have the spreadsheet that is set in 15 minute incraments telling you where you will be every minute you are there? You can't be obsessive until you complete that! (Finished mine this weekend).

I can't stop laughing. I thought I was alone. I don't know how many times DH went to bed grumbling because I was still on the computer (I swear he thought I had found someone over the internet).

After our first trip with 3 kids in Nov. 2000 he actually complemented me on the wonderful planning. So, of course, this went straight to my head and I began planning our Dec. 2002 trip. What I failed to realize is that traveling with 3 little kids is not the same as traveling with the same kids two years later. It never occurred to me that they might actually want to be involved in the planning! When they saw the pool at the Polynesian my plans went up in smoke and I was vetoed big time. It was the best thing that happened on that trip. Some of our best memories are swimming in the volcano pool.

I learned alot for our Nov. 2003 trip. I am still an obsessive planner but I am letting the kids make some of the decisions so that they feel it is their trip also. Last time I heard, "Well, that's what mom wants to do" a little too much. I am hoping by making it more theirs, that some of the grumpy behavior I witnessed last time will disappear. I also hope they will realize that everyone has to have a turn doing something that they enjoy.

I can't believe it... I am not the only "Wacko Disneyer" as my husband calls me!!! I am going to make him read this whole thread. Hey, maybe we're the normal ones and they are all the "wackos???!?!"

my name is Pam and I am a Disney addict :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: ! It's been three, no maybe 2 hours since I last checked these boards.

My husband knows never, never to close my link to the disboards! I have my 7 yr old twins almost trained - lol!

It's so much fun, I'm not ready to stop!

My hubby thinks that I am psycho... go figure

so what if my excel sheet is 3 pages; budget;scheule;packing/grocery list.
so what if we are 'planned' morning noon and night.

it is 'ok' if we go off of schedule - but the 'plan' is there. Beats having no plan and wandering about the parks with a map.. beats standing in line for splash at 1pm .

he thinks I am certifiable...

:earseek:

:D Well I don't think I am quite as detailed (obsesed) as some of my fellow disney adventures. But my wife seemed to get tired of me talking about it within days of me starting to plan. So I slowed down and ordered some books and stuff. The next thing I know my wife has talked to a few of our friends and now there are at least 2 other familys traveling with us (convoy) and others that will be there when we get there or will arive after us. I thought planing with just the 4 of us was going to be tough. Trying to plan for 12 (6 adults 6 kids) will be a challange.

Just trying to stay loose

I have always been an extreme planner and very detailed when planning any of our trips, whether it be NYC, Boston, or wherever.

But, my wife really thinks that I have gone completely crazy this time with WDW. These boards have given me lots of great information, but I think I now know what "DIS NUT" means.:Pinkbounc

Wonderful... it isn't just us women that are doing the obsessing!!!

we have some of the men going just as DisNUTS!

I LOVE it!

I've found my soul mates at last!!!! Will you all be my new best friends?

I resisted a Disney vacation until this spring break when my kids were 12, 10 and 7. We started small and went to DLR in CA. I discovered the boards. I got hooked. (I feel inadequate in your company, however. I used a low tech three ring binder instead of spread sheets.)

A Disney vacation is an area where obsessive planning really pays off. I felt so sorry for all the people who hadn't studied in advance! I wondered how I would function after I got back from my terrific DLR vacation...so I started planning the next one - I can't decide on WDW or DL Paris next year.

The big problem is that in August we have a very nice trip to Washington State and British Columbia planned and I just can't get excited about it. Once I finished making all the reservations a couple of months ago, I stopped planning. It's just no fun without friends like you to help!

I'm sooooo glad I am not the only one. DH likes Disney fine but I have been just about banned from talking about it or any of the plans! He leaves it all to me. Once in a while he will give me 15 minutes to ask questions about the Disney trip. NO I'm not KIDDING! LOL.

Glad I'm not the only obsessive one.

wdwo

PS - See my name? LOL

This is me with bells on!!!

Being a stay at home/work at home mom, I plan everything! I can't help it. Planning helps me have some control over the unexpected things that always seem to pop up. I do go overboard with my Disney planning though.

I Love Disney World!!!

Maybe someone will start a PA board (Planning Anonymous). LOL. It'll give me another excuse to be on the boards. HAHA

M:smooth:

i love to obsess about the planning.it kinda passes the time between trips.funny part is i make all these plans before i go and then when im there i just go with the flow...lol oh well:smooth:

I would love to see all of these excel spreadsheets that everyone is talking about. If anyone would be willing to email me a copy I'd be thrilled!!! I can be reached at renessa@hotmail.com
Thanks, Renessa

We get to Disney 2-3 times a year, but since we are less the an hour away we had never stayed at a resort.
This year My Daughter suggested we go to Disney and stay at a resort rather then the 1000 mile back to our home state.

She gave me a budget and ask me to put it together. First chore was what resort?
Make the story short I have pounded the keyboard a solid two weeks and we will be in WL 7/7/03.
I have learned more about WDW in those two weeks then in the 12 years I have lived here. The only problem as I see it is I have gotten so excited I am nt sure I can hold up.

My daughter, 12, has all but framed the Excel spreadsheet(s) from our first trip. That was the trip where my husband asked (in exasperation) where the h-x-x-x are the bathroom breaks. DD thinks the spreadsheets are certifiable proof that I am not quite right. Now I relax and plan in 1/2-day increments - a.m. and p.m. with a few PS meals thrown in. Still, DH has offered my planning services to lots of folks but they back away when they see the madness lurking in my eyes.

My latest plan is a long girl's weekend for DD and 3 of her friends. I have not been able to rest since I found out that two of them have never been to WDW - and here we are a stone's throw away in SC (ok - a 9-hour drive, but who's counting). What kind of parents can they have?

Now I get to plan to make sure their first trip is magical. This is great!

I am with you... Every year after we come back from our disney vacation I start planning the next! My husband thinks I am crazy. But I am truly addicted to disney and love the planning of our trips! Whenever I find a great deal, I analyze it. Eventually, our trip works out great! (thanks to these boards and the great discounts I come across along the way)
Have fun!

beka's Mom:)

Obsessive?? Naaawww!!! First,we moved our trip from december to september and we were staying at the Royal Pacific and the Dolphin just to visit Epcot, since, this was an Universal trip. Then I decided Royal Pacific and AKL concierge to do the safari. Then,I changed it to Hard Rock and Yatch Club. Then,I decided HRH club level and Swan. Now, I'm thinking Hard Rock, AKL and Swan, but, of course I'm still considering dumping Universal and doing the FTP at AKL.Good thing I'm not obsessive

I'm so glad I'm not alone!! I get up early to see new posts and it's the first thing I do when I get home from work. I x off the site when I hear my husband coming down the hall and tell him I was just checking my email. He went to disney the first time last Dec and did not care for it (crowds, waiting in lines). I'm planning a trip in Aug. First three days with my mom at asmu then two nights with dear friend at WL. I'm taking my ds5 who LOVES disney! He's just now 40"!!! It'll be his 3rd trip in 18 months. I LOVE WDW!!!!! Thank you for all the great info on these boards. My mom asked me how I know all the things I know. I emailed her the sites for the dis, WDWIG and mousesavers. Maybe she'll get hooked too.

First of all.....

Who wants to be hired??????? I am planning my first trip to Disney ever... with my three kiddies and hubby... Then the rest of the family found out... and we now have my "inlaws" and my SIL and her family... So... It's now a family of 11 in second week in Nov. ALL NEW TO DISNEY.

I generally am a research fanatic.... I do find Disney overwhelming (to say the least)...

I am very computer savvy... but never have used Excel, I'll have to try to figure it out... My husbands been begging me to do "a family budget" on Excel for years.

I would love samples of anyone's itinerary... really! I feel completely overwhelmed... esp. now with this large gathering. Not to mention my SIL invited her best friends... (fam. of 4) and they are coming at the same time too... (does anyone think that is a little rude?).... I'm not going to get all bent out of shape... but orginally this was just our family.... We of course said.. "ok... if my hubby's parents want to come too... fine I guess"... and then hubby's parents can't do anything without their daughter..... so now's she's coming.... Meanwhile.. I'm biting my tongue... but since I've never vacationed with them before (and I have with my side of the family).. .I"m thinking... "okay... I have to be flexible... this could be okay.. don't freak out... the kids will have fun with their cousins.... maybe this will work...".... I'm afraid my hubby might split up... and "the men" run in one direction and "the women" would go in the other... stuck with my MIL and SIL and all the young kids...... So I made it clear early on... THAT's NOT going to happen... (well not more than 10 times anyway)...:( But this recent news of my SIL inviting her best friend and family has just kind of pushed me over the edge... I don't know! I'm probably being Catty... and should just think "how wonderful it is we are all together"...

Anyway... Just realized ... this probably doesnt' belong on this THREAD... IS there a " MIGHT GO CRAZY AND LOSE MY MIND  " thread?

So... if anyone has any schedules of their trips that they would like to share.... Please do... This whole thing is overwhelming. We are driving thru the night.. .arriving in Orlando late morning... and doing a "room only" check in the first night Sat. Nov. 8th. I would like to do a nice large dinner gathering.. .relax and recover on Sat... and start the FTP... Nov. 9th.. Sunday.... Staying thru the next Sunday Nov. 16th.

Thanks to anyone and all of for your help in the past...
Blessings.;)
