I'm starting my research, as I am anticipating purchasing a new car before the end of the year. I'm seriously leaning towards a Saturn Vue, as it has everything I need and is the least expensive. Does anyone have any opinions (good or bad) about this car? I'm currently driving a Chevy Malibu, and I want something bigger, but not huge. Gas mileage is important, as is safety (I admit, I know zero about the safety rating of this car). I want something with extra storage space, but again, I don't want anything massive (my mother drives a Durango, and that is too big for me).

I also want a few bells and whistles, but not many (I currently have a sunroof and couldn't imagine not having one; I also want heated seats - I *love* those!). Also, being iPod compatable is a must.

Suggestions?

We have had our Vue for a year and we couldn't be happier. I feel so safe in it and it gets pretty good gas mileage. This is the first car that I have had that has a sunroof and I can't imagine not having it. We are already planning on getting another one when this one is paid off.

We have an '03 VUE and we love it!! I spent 2 years looking for a car before I settled on this one, and I do not regret it one day :woohoo: Looking forward to owning another someday.

Good luck

Thanks, everyone! This is just the kind of reports I want to hear. :)

Anyone else with opinions?

We had an 03 VUE (bare bones) and loved it until it some lady pulled out in front of us and we wrecked it. After that, it just wasn't the same... Our other saturn didn't hold up too well after it's wreck either. (DH rearended)

I would buy another one if it was the only car I could afford... Apparently the VUEs are only inexpensive if you don't add anything to them... if you want a V6 automatic, it might be just as cost effective to get another mini suv.

I have one and have been pretty happy with it. I'm really not "into" cars and it kills me to spend a ton of money on something that I know will depreciate so quickly. I thought that the Vue was a good value (but I also got a better than average deal since my brother-in-law and sister-in-law worked for GM at the time). I think that the gas mileage is pretty good for a small SUV. It also has a lot more room than something like the Honda CRV. I also think that most Saturn dealerships (both sales and service) are really easy to deal with. It's all very low pressure and I don't feel like they are ever trying to deceive me with anything.

Bump--I'm looking at VUEs too. I've heard that their crash ratings aren't good though. Anyone have any stats on that? I am currently driving my 4th Saturn, so I definitely like the company!

We have 2 saturns. A 04 Ion 4 and a 05 Vue. We have the standard 4cyn but has a sunroof. I love both especially the Vue but I will say that when we buy another, and we will, it will be a 6cyn. We travel alot and I just don't like constantly having to hit the gas harder to stay with the flow of traffic. It's like if you ease up off the pedal it just doesn't keep pace and then you have to smack it hard to make it go again. I also don't think you could carry alot in it and want to go up any hill. It was a bit of a transition from the 6cyn explorer but I still love the Vue. I have no problems with either one and will more than likely get rid of the Ion and get another vue within the next 2 years.

The sales and service people are great. Recently I locked myself out of the Vue and didn't have anyone to call to help so I called the dealership and they brought me out another key at no expense. I bought the guy a cup of coffee as thanks since he wouldn't let me tip him anything.

As for the IPOD compatible, I have a car thingy that I plug into my ashtray and it works in both Saturns with no problem.

I have a VUE and love it! I'd owned 2 Saturn SL2's before and never had any problems with them-loved the Saturn dealership too. No haggles, no pressure... just perfect! Then I traded in my 2nd Saturn to get a used Chevy Blazer. It was nice to have the bigger vehicle, but it was used, so when I started having a multitude of problems, it wasn't under warranty.... but I still owed $7K on the thing! We were expecting baby #2, so we thought we should go with a minivan (before the Saturn one came out) I went w/ the Dodge Grand Caravan and could not have hated a buying experience or vehicle more than that one! I managed to hang onto it for almost 2 years (only racked up 19000 miles on it) and I had just one too many problems with servicing it at the dealership, so I went back to Saturn and got a brand new Vue (Sept. 2004). No complaints yet! Love my vehicle! :)

My vue is 2 years old. It is a 4 cyl. and red. I love it. The gas mileage is great (as most 4 cyl are). I didn't think I would like a SUV until I test drove the Vue. I will probably keep mine until it wears out. Then I will probably buy another.

I was looking to buy one last year. Test drove it and LOVED it. Then I drove a Jeep Liberty and felt that handled much better.

About a week before I went out to buy the new car, I went back to my original plan of getting a beetle. Only reason why I didn't go for one of the others is that hubby already has a Cherokee, we didn't need two big cars.

That said, we've owned Saturns before and have been extremely pleased.

I have owned an SL-2 and and now have a 2003 Saturn Vue (4cyl-manual) and I love my car. I got my first look at the Vue and sat in it, of all places, at the GM exhibit when you exit Test Track a few years back. I fell in love with it then. I'm a little dissapointed with Saturn for changing the look of the front end of the Vue, though. It's just that if you lined the vue up with other SUV's and looked at it from the front it no longer would really stand out as it did before. But, I would still buy it because I love the car and the company. Oh, the only thing that you have to get used to is the window controls in the center instead of on the door. That took me a while. :teeth:
