Does anyone do wdw slowly and relax?

We normally start out commando, but then slow down and just enjoy being there.

We have done Commando, relaxed, taking breaks tried them all over the years:rotfl:

We usually do a sit down a day....its great to be in the aircondition relax and eat and talk about our day and what we'd like to do or enjoy before we go back to resort.

We pick a park each day sometimes early entry sometimes not. Do our must dos. We do wonder and look in shops take snack or foot rest breaks.

We are going to leave in 7 days for a 17 day trip. Although I have a conference for three of them. My DH and DD15 will have few days of just Daddy Daughter time while I am at conference and then we'll have 6 days to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Hubby has to head back to work....then its just me and our DD15 for our annual mother daughter trip. I am really excited its always our last time before school starts. It will be slow prob breaks back at resort to swim. Physical Therapy every other day in Health Club and opposite days P/T in pool or exercises in room.

We will be touring WDW really slow as our daughter has had a leg brace all summer and crutches. I am looking into buying a wheelchair online and shipping it to first resort as its cheaper than a rental.

I'm hoping to do a combination of both on my trip next week. We're taking our twins on their first visit and want to see a lot but I want to relax a bit and savor every minute in the world.

We (actually I) have always been pretty fast paced trying to do everything. This trip we (again, I) have decided to slow down and let the kids lead the trip. My husband and I are excited to be moving at a slower pace and the kids are excited about being in charge. We will probably end up at the pool more on this trip!! After reading all of the previous posts, i'm glad we decided to slow down a bit. There are really so many things we haven't seen because we have been rushing so much. This trip, I plan on seeing more "little" things!! I can't wait - December can't get here fast enough!!!!!

We do a lot of relaxing on our WDW vacations. We almost always sleep in, have breakfast, spend some time at the pool, then go to the parks. We have to wake up early almost every morning of our lives for school and work. When we're on vacation we do not want to hear our alarm going off. We love taking it easy and letting it soak in. In the parks we're sometimes rushing around to get to all of our favorite attractions but we're in no way commando.

We never do commando. I learned my lesson about that when we lived in California and had APs to Disneyland. The first few times we went, we tried to squeeze in as many rides as humanly possible and it was just not fun. We learned in the end that we could ride nearly as much stuff simply strolling around and making observations about queues. Disney is so well-themed and has so many cool "hidden" things to do and see that to me it would be a waste to focus exclusively on the rides. I can definitely understand how someone would do that though if they might never get to go again.

All the time! I realize, though, that my situation is not typical. I grew up in Florida & have had annual or seasonal passes all of my adult life so I've been to the parks literally hundreds of times each.

I always bring my kindle to the parks & usually sit down for a long read somewhere at least a couple of times a day. FYI entering a park with nothing but your ticket & a kindle is amusing to bag-check. "What.... worried there's nothing to do inside, are we?"

I've been known to visit MK for 5 hours or so & never get off Main Street. Enter the park, pull character FPs, sit on the porch at Town Hall for 45 minutes reading, see the characters, browse one side of stores, hit the Plaza for a nice reuben, MMY & Wishes in the Hub, Crystal Palace porch for another 30-minute read while the park clears out, slowly browse the other side of Main Street stores, and out.

Of course, I can also run family & friends through the parks like our tails are on fire, on their 3-day tickets. ;)

We have two young kids, and in order for us to enjoy our time at all, we HAVE to take it fairly slow. That doesn't mean that we don't get stuff done, but we're also not Open-to-Close people, and if we have to wait in a line for something the kids really want to do at a non-optimal time--so be it. We do go with a plan, which is essentially a list of what we want to do in what order, but we don't drag our kids all over. That wouldn't be any fun, and we're there to have fun.

I will say that being at Disney was the best time we've ever had together as a family. It was just a week of of the four of us, no outside distractions, no housework to do, and no pets to take care of. Just four humans, focused on having fun. It was reconnection that I think we all definitely needed.

We absolutely go slowly and relax. That's one of our favorite things about owning DVC - we know we'll always be back!!! I'm taking my third trip of 2012 in October!!! If a line's too long we know we'll hit the ride next time. If it's too hot, we go back and enjoy the pool. If our feet hurt, we take a long break for lunch. We don't feel the need to rush around any more.

We also tend to go when it's off-peak so it's not as crowded and we don't need to rush around.

You'll be there for the Disney Marathon weekend, so you can watch the runners depending on where you are staying and which parks you'll be in. You'll see the real commandos - four parks in four hours or more.

It is so much fun to just do what you feel like! Our family does Hoop De Doo Revue EVERY trip. We love it. Well, last time we said we were going to skip it since we have done it so much. We were at Epcot one night and it was getting late and we hadn't eaten dinner. I said "Where does everyone want to eat". One person said Hoop De Doo. Well, sorry we don't have tickets. Then everone was like "We wanna go to Hoop De Doo!!!" I called reservations and they could get us into the 930 show! Which was starting in 45 mins! We raced over there and had the best time, the 930 show was hilarious as I think the actors were starting to get a little loopy after a long night  .

Just do what you feel like doing at the time! Have fun :)

That's the only way we do WDW. :)

I feel so sorry for those poor kids that we see every trip being dragged everywhere in "must do/must see" mode, or trotting to keep up with Mom or Dad and they all look miserable. That isn't what WDW is about. :(

Same here. On our last trip I saw a sleeping child being carried into the MK at 10:00 at night. She was a pretty big kid too. And there was another one who just collapsed on the floor outside the International Gateway to EPCOT crying that he didn't want to go to another park.

DH did that commando thing to me once and I ended up all hot, sweaty, mad and with shin splints or something (my legs just burned). Never again. It's our vacation and while I want to do things, I have zero desire to race around to rides & shows I have seen & done a dozen times. We sleep in, stroll around the park, spend lots of time at the pool, etc.

We don't have kids, and our WDW commando days are long gone - except when there is something new and popular like TSM. On our 1st trip after it opened I insisted that DH get going early one morning so we'd be assured of Fast Passes.

We're among the lucky ones who have been almost every year since 1980. Even though we know no one is guaranteed a tommorow, for many years now our attitude is that if we miss something this time, we'll do it next time, and I find I really like the more laid-back approach.

And now that we're both retired, next year I'm still hoping to fufill a long-time fantasy to spend at least one Winter as a CM!

Not usually, but this trip in Nov we will be! We have been now a good amount of times ( twice this yr) that I already said to DH we are in no need to rush this vacation. We also have DS now that will be 12 months when we go so no need to be at parks for rope drop till close. I def want to get up at our own "Alarm Clock", and not rush in the parks, like previous posters said sit and relax, take in all the smells, scenery and watch all the other "speed walkers" :rotfl2:

As we have gotten older, we prefer to take our time now. We feel we don't have to be up at the crack of dawn any more. Being now in our forties, we try to soak it in more and enjoy the other little details we might not have seen. Also focus more on the rides and attractions that we haven't noticed or done in a while. We even enjoy EPCOT a lot more now since we now travel for the world for the Food and Wine festival.

we relax -- but we still get to the park for opening, but we take it slow -- head back to the resort for around 1 pm and chill -- then head back around 5 or 6 pm.

We somehow manage to see and do everything we wanted :)

We are planning a trip for the winter break, my goal it to relax and get away from the NY cold. sit by the pool maybe go for a swim and if we feel like getting to a park we will.

DH and I do alone trips and YES we take our time and relax, have cocktails, enjoy just being there . . .we've been many many times and we have learned that we'll always be back, so there is no rush, no sprinting, no biggie if I don't get on one of my fav rides . . .

We usually just pick a park, decide what we'd like to ride, get FP and while waiting, just chill . . .

I do have to admit though, when the kids were little, we did a lot of major touring . . .stood in lines (before FP even existed) visited characters and never took the time to just stop and relax . . .which equaled exhaustion, crabby kids and unhappy parents . . .;)

We do both...but even when we go commando in the morning, we take a break and relax all afternoon. I like having a good touring plan because we don't like to stand in line and hate crowds, but we're not sticklers about it.

I am a big fan of getting there way before rope drop because we get done more in the first half hour than some people do all day and then we relax! :thumbsup2
