We won't be doing the DP for this Sept trip pretty much for the sole reason that DH & I gained too much weight on our previous trip!! popcorn:: We agreed before we left that we wouldn't get apps & dessert with everymeal everytime &.....that's just what we did:rotfl: Anyway, since we will be paying for all meals OOP, do any of you out there order something for yourself off the kids menu? I've been thinking about that a little & if there is something I like that is smaller, why can't I order that. I know it would be different if we were on the DP, but we won't be. Just wondering if anyone does this very much & what places had the best stuff as we don't have any kids!! By the way, if the kids meals now come with milk & carrots or whatever, if you substitute soda & fries, do they charge you more? Thanks for any opinions. Going to try to keep this trip to a single digit weight gain!:rotfl2:

I've never done that before and not sure if it can be done, but I tend to ask for lunch size portions at restaurants other than the ones at WDW. They give me smaller portions and charge me the lunch price. It's never been a big deal. You could always ask.

I have done it a few times, back when the children's menu was more reflective of the adult menu. But the children's menus aren't as appealing anymore, so if I'm not too hungry, I make do with an appetizer instead of an entree or if I'm traveling with someone, we'll split an entree.

DH and I usually order an appetizer, entree', and dessert, but we split each one of them. It saves us calories and a few $, but the main reason is the calories. Also, while on vacation we never want to take any leftovers with us, so it's always been a huge waste of food when we order our own items off the menu. Sometimes we'll each order our own entree' if there aren't any appetizers that we like, but we don't usually each order a dessert. As for the kids' menus, I don't remember seeing anything that I especially liked, on any of them, at the restaurants we've been to, so sharing our food has been the best solution so far. Have a great trip! :sunny:

I ALWAYS gain weight at WDW!! It's the running joke here. We don't think that we eat any more food there than we do at home and yet :scared1: the scale says differently!! Also, we certainly do much more walking at WDW than we do at home:confused3 . Bottom line, "who cares". Enjoy yourself, eat whatever you want and have fun...it is vacation!!:woohoo:

Hee Hee! That is exactly our philosophy. We tend to be big dieters in the real world, but we always go on the "FACT" that vacation pounds don't count. :rotfl: We don't talk about rides when we are getting excited about our upcoming trip-we talk about where we are eating!! :woohoo:

You can always do what I do: order 2 appetizers & eat one as your app & one as your entree. That always fills me up, and then we split a dessert, so that we still get to taste different foods, without getting far too much & stuffing ourselves uncomfortably.

When we eat at Beaches & Cream, we both get the grilled cheese which is on the kids' menu, since we don't eat meat. We substitute fries for the fruit and get cokes instead of milks, but they do charge extra for the cokes.

Cheers!

Last year I asked if I could order the burrito off of the kids menu at San Angel Inn. They let me, but said they had to make the portion a little larger and charge me a little more.

We decided not to do the DP next visit also for the same reason. We normally don't eat appies and I never would get desserts, just snitch a bite of DHs if he got one! It was just too much food and I ate it all. Only gained 5 pounds but I need to LOSE ... not gain!!!!

I never really like what's on the children's menus so this trip we are eating mainly lunches out and then pick up a CS meal and split it adding some healthy add ons like fruit ... to make it more filling around dinnertime. The resort CS seem to have fruit available as well as the Electric Umbrella in EPCOT.

We may still have a salad or share an appie at our TS lunches but none of this 1 for each of us deal. It was good but just too much!

Good luck! :thumbsup2

As a member of Weight Watchers, I know how to get back on "the plan" when I get home, but it's great fun when I'm there, but reality sets in fast when it takes forever to undo what I did in a week! It was just a thought really. I thought maybe smaller portions would leave more room for all the wonderful Disney snacks that I love so much! I was actually thinking about this more for CS than TS.

I also do WW and my plan of action always works like this. I weigh in before we leave....then I skip a week when I get back and use that week to really get on track...by the time I weigh in ...I am usually about the same or maybe up a pound. Like we return on a Thursday in Aug....and I weigh in Sat. mornings...so I will skip that Sat. weigh in two days later and go the following Sat. I also feel we walk so much that it all works out in the wash so to speak. LOL :cutie:

We ordered 3 kids meals at Cantina De San Angel last Oct. and they didn't bat an eye. We weren't on the DDP, and it was for me, DH and DD. Very good, by the way, and just enough food for lunch.

You can order kids meals at any of the CS. My favorite is the kids chicken meal at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. It's perfect for a small lunch in the heat of summer.
