I always hear about pilates but I have no idea what it entails, other than a big ball. ;) Any details?

I am going to borrow my niece's pilates DVD this weekend and if I like, I will take a class. I'll let you know!

I loved it, and I need to start again, we get free classes in our gym. And trust me, the next day your body is so sore, is very good!

Sears has a beginner Pilates set (DVD, ball, etc) on sale for $15. Wondering if I should try it?

I love pilates, but I've never used one of those balls. I don't go to classes, but use tapes/dvds at home. It's not the best workout ever, but it's generally a great form of stress relief for me and can actually be fairly relaxing. And you definitely feel stronger and more toned after doing it for a while!

I love the Method tapes, especially the ones with Jennifer Kries. Romana's Pilates series also has good instruction.

I just do the Winsor Pilates videos at home, but never use a ball or a mat or anything. I like it a lot because it works you pretty hard without you breaking a hard sweat..which makes me feel like I can do it at night after the kids go to bed.

I did quite a bit of mat Pilates before I had DD. It works - it is great.

I will say that it is difficult to learn to do the exercises properly on your own, even with a video. Many of the moves are very subtle and you really need an instructor there to help you out, adjust you if necessary, etc. Is there any way that you can take a few classes? You can really get a feel for it and it will be easier for you to know if you are doing the moves correctly.

I've taken classes at the gym and loved it. I just bought the Winsor Pilates set and need to start up again. It's a good workout...lots of stretching, flexibililty and focus on core strengthening. Try it...you'll like it.

I've been doing Winsor pilates with just a mat, no ball. It's a nice workout and it really tones you up. My butt has never looked better!
