Does anyone belong to Angie's List?

We're looking at buying a house that is going to need some work. After some not so good contractors over the years, I'd really like to find some good ones! I've tried looking on Kudzu.com since free is better :goodvibes but there are very few reviews on any of the companies for our area (Spokane, WA). So I am worried about paying to join Angie's List and finding out that there are very few useful review. As far as I could find, there's no option for previewing how many reviews there are for our area. So if someone has a membership, could you let me know if there's a useful amount of reviews for the various contractor specialties in our area? TIA!

I am a member but never really looked at it because I didn't understand how to use the website. Just pulled it up and put in a Spokane zip code. I would have to pay $10 to see that city, so sorry I can't help. Maybe in a big city it makes sense how it works. I can't find anything on the site, but maybe just because in my area no one is on the list.

I subscribed to it for one day and then asked for a refund. There was nothing in my area, and I'm in Central Jersey (there's plenty around here!). It only works if people in your area who are already subscribers post to it. If, in my case, there's not a lot of subscribers, you get very little information. I was looking for a new dentist and someone to power wash our house.

In my book, not worth it, but it may be different in your area.

We belong. I've had great luck with them. They have these great discounted specials every once in a while. We've had our ducts cleaned for $75-we have two furnaces, our garage door maintained and lubed for $39, a full architectural plan and quote done for a remodel of our master/master bath for $50 and our trees trimmed-yard mulched and a tree planted for $150 not including the cost of the tree and mulch(stuff hauled away too!) My husband is a vendor with Angie's list, has straight A ratings and doesn't have to advertise anywhere else as the local members keep him quite busy. It's what you make of it. If you're a DIY kind of household, don't join. My husband spends his time working for other people so I really use Angie's list.

I belong too, and have had good luck. Especially since we just moved to a new state and have no one we can really ask for references. I got two years membership for like $11. I found a code on retailmenot.com. You can also get cash back for joinging through some rewards programs..>I know sunshine rewards has them as a merchant. I found an electrician, and have a guy coming out to put gutters on our house next week. All very reasonably priced. Sometimes I even get emails about discounts their service providers are offering. I got furnace service once for about $45. Works out well. I even had to change locations, since we moved, and it was quick and easy.

Wow, it seems to really vary if it's useful to people or not. Thanks for the tip about a coupon code, I never thought of looking for one. But I see there's some available to bring the 1 year cost down to $7.50 including activation. For that price, I may just risk it.

Have you tried using service magic? (Servicemagic.com) They match you to contractors in your area that have been screened and are insured. You can look at the reviews other people have left. I do not beleive you (the consumer) pay anything for the service. I know the contractors pay a fee.
