I don't have a problem with the no liquids/gels rule. Whatever they need to do to keep us safe. As long as they still serve beverages on the plane, I don't mind not bringing my own.

The only thing that I would slightly be upset by is if I had to check my cell phone, beacause I travel solo, and that makes me feel more secure, and there's no way I can go on an almost two week vacation without it. (Not so much for me, but if I went two weeks without contact to any of my family or friends, they'd be worried about me 24/7.) And then my camera - but that's because it was expensive, and it's not like I'd be able to go to WDW without it.

In Dec I'm planning on only taking some clothes, my phone and camera, and a magazine or book in my carry-on. Everything else will be checked happily.

I agree with the OP 100%. The whining the last few days is driving me crazy.

I agree that the only people really challenged with these new rules are mothers with babies or very young children. Obviously, a mother needs formula or milk for her baby and they have rules in place for that. Otherwise, the rest of us have to suck it up and do what is best for us, our families and fellow travelers.

I always check my bag, no matter what. I carry on very little and have done so on one hour trips or across the country. No big deal!

While I would like to agree, IMHO the only way to keep everyone compleltely safe is to move to the middle of nowhere and become fully self sufficient........ SInce that's not something I think is viable for me (I am not that good at growing things, I would strave) I don't know that 100% safety is ever going to occur.

you know, its the people here that complain about security that make me mad.

If we didnt have security in London and here, we might have had more tragedies like 9/11 this week. Even though thats true, do you all still care that 1 extra hour and no make up or visine in your carryon is your "punishment"?

For the person that wrote if its her time to go so be it...well, do you HONESTLY feel that way? If so, fine, but do can you honestly look at your child and ask her if she is ok with dying today so we can all be a bit more "normal" at the airport? Now i'm not saying that you would think this, because i'm absolutely sure you would not. I'm just pointing out that your statement seemed jaded.

I think high security is going to be "normal" from now on, and we all need to get over it. I actually wish they would ban anything more than a small purse like carry on. No more 24" carry ons! This would save time.

So am i upset by hieghtened security? NO! Am i upset about spending extra time in line and having to be patted down or my perfume i accidently packed get thrown away. NOPE! I would rather my children be safe as can be then risk thier lives for extra minutes shaved off an airport line.

(I do find INCONSISTENCIES in the secuirty make me furious. For example, why does the FA get to carry on her hair gel??? You pretty much invalidated the security with that one move. Why are the beverages sold in the airport "sterlie" area a risk???? Did they NOT follow procedure and screen them??? Or are they saying "it's ok if they blow up a the gate area" ? Why are electronics dangerous? According to the media it's because they provide POWER to the "bomb" LOOK AROUND the airport and the airplane. Can't you see NUMEROUS "power" sources??? The power isn't a problem, the BOMB is! And until the US Gov't spends the money it needs to we are always going to be "Reacting" not proactive and that's not good)

I'm sorry, but I flat refuse to live the rest of my life worrying what a terrorist is going to do to me or my family. If it's my time to go, so be it. We have to draw a line somewhere when our precautions have to stop. Otherwise we will all just sit at home and do nothing. And if that occurs, the terrorists have indeed won. JMO

Go ahead. Take away everything we can carry on. (That book will certainly be an IED product. ) Then the terrorists will find ways to embed stuff in clothing they are wearing. Will we have to board planes completly naked one day just to be safe? Or strip down at security so they can scan all our clothing? Oh wait...something might be inside a person...So we'll have to have internal exams to board a plane. Forget it - just cancel all flights for eternity.

Iagree with the Op. I can certainly survive without chapstick for a few hours.

I keep reading the posts with disers whining about such small inconviences. Perhaps we should step back and think about the thousand of soldiers that are living without chap stick, shampoo, a shower, thier families. Those men and women are giving their lives to try and keep us safer and we complain about getting on an airplane without shampoo. Seriously.

I have read the other forum posts with disgust but didnt post as people are entitled to their own opinions. Thanks for posting one that makes sense to me! I really wish people would think about whats truly important and stop worrying about getting on an airplane without stinking chapstick. You cant stop living but you certainly can live survive an airplane ride without your makeup.

Whatever I have to do, I will go along with to fly. Anything to keep terrorists out of the skies is my theory. I agree with the OP, but terrorists will never stop me from doing what I want to do. If I have to stand in line awhile longer, or alter my carry on items, oh well..not that big a deal for me or anyone. I would rather do that and see people stay alive than risk some terrorists getting items for explosives onto the planes....

We were joking at my office yesterday that in the future we will board the plane in cotton robes and slippers provided by the TSA. (And since the goverments are really good at LOW bidding the quality will be so bad that they will make hospital gowns look good! )

Sorry but I do not agree with you. Right now they are doing this because of the current threat but this only takes care of one threat and many others that are still out there. Our pre flight security checks are done on the quick and cheap here in the USA and because of this they are more of an inconvenience to the general public then a deterent to a determined terrorist.

I know it's not PC but it's people that are a threat and it's people we should be targeting. Anyone can currently slip a knife past security, it just needs to be a glass or hardened plastic knife. Without real exposive detectors people can still slip explosives through security. I've heard of plastic guns that can go through a metal detector.

Remember that these terrorist were not stopped at the airport but instead stopped by intelligence agencies targeting possible terrorist. If the current airport security standards were previously in place then the terrorist would have planned a different method. Terrorist change thier methods to exploit whatever system in in place so the only people really bothered by these new rules are the general public.

If I am not mistaken, I believe that Isreal requires luggage to be checked 24 hours prior to flight. Lets hope we never have to go there. As I understand it they have some very tight security measures. And as far as our soldiers living in less than desirable circumstances and what do they have to do with this is ...the middle east has everything to do with it.

My brother just took a flight from Dallas to Phila and had a conversation with a flight attendant who had to throw out $150 worth of make-up.

With regard to a day when they may not allow carry-ons at all, like it is now in London, I have a minor concern in terms of feminine products. I guess the airlines would have to supply them.

Feminine products are an allowed item on UK flights as long as they are unboxed.

BUT solid lip balms like chap stick are (currently) NOT illegal. Just some TSA agents are going overboard by confiscating them. So don't jump on them for that one.

I agree with Bill. There are things we SHOULD be doing that are PROACTIVE and would keep you MUCH MUCH safer then the TSA's "react and panic" approach.

1. Passenger manifests should be provided to the gov't BEFORE the plane boards not AFTER it's in the air.

2. The updated screening machines which detect explosives should be EVERYWHERE.

I have written both my Senators requesting them to get the Dept of Homeland Securirty to begin to function as more then a reactive agency and to do this right. My thoughts are that I do not feel dramatically safer today then five years ago, but I KNOW I am more harrasssed. (I did not write my Congressperson since Cynthia McKinney is WAY too busy making a scene about how we voted her out of office to be useful. Of course had she been any good at her job and not out beating up the Capitol Police we would not have voted her out)

And I agree that the Chapstick is a prime example of the TSA abusing it's power

Read the listing below and find chapstick, lipstick etc? This is the TSA's list. Granted it's not a comprehensive list, but nothing like chap stick appears on here does it? (lip Gels are not the same thing IMHO) and while every other makeup appears Lipsticks don't.... If they let me carry on my lipstick then why not my chapstick???
