Does Anybody Host A Discussion Forum?

I want to start a discussion forum for my industry, ideally I would like to generate an income from it. I have googled and found a few websites, but I wondered if anyone here had started their own group and could give me some pointers. I understand that the revenue stream would come from advertisers and/or sponsors but I have no idea how to determine what you would charge advertisers, or how to create banner ads, etc.

Can anyone recommend websites or books that could help me get started?
