I have a friend leaving in 4 days and she said someone told her about a tour that they can watch them feed the animals. Isn't that the Sunrise Safari only
offered to guests of the AKL? Please help.

Thanks, Wendi

There is a Backstage Safari tour.

The Education Team at Disney's Animal Kingdom invite you to find out what happens behind-the-scenes at Walt Disney World's incredible "New Species of Theme Park." During this in-depth 3 hour program you'll get an insider's look at the innovative ways that we are meeting challenges in areas such as conservation, animal nutrition and medicine, animal care and behavioral studies. Highlights include visits to: backstage animal housing areas to meet some of our keepers and learn how we care for our animals on a daily basis; the Animal Nutrition Center, where all of our animal's diets are prepared; our state-of-the-art Veterinary HospitalandAnimal Programs Administration to learn how we are constantly seeking new ways to ensure our animal's health and well being. This program takes place entirelybehind the scenes. Animal viewing is extremely limited. No photography will be allowed backstage.

Location and Time: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8:30 A.M. Available for guests 16 and older. Guests should meet at the main entrance of Disney's Animal Kingdom, at the far left turnstile near Guest Relations. Look for a sign for Backstage Safari check in. Guests should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to start time.

Duration: 3 Hours

Cost: $65.00 per person. (Theme Park admission is also required.)

Restrictions: Guests must be at least 16 years old to attend this program. Guest are required to have a photo ID in their possession during the program. This is an outdoor program, including moderate walking and stair climbing. We can accommodate guests with special needs with prior notice.

If you're in the neighborhood, stop by the Animal Kingdom Lodge around 5 pm. That's when they feed the animals in the savannah -- giraffes, zebras and such -- by driving little trucks around and tossing out huge bales of hay.

The animals are excited and pretty animated, as you can imagine, and they often come pretty close to the viewing area.

It's a fun thing to do if you're planning a 5:30 dinner at Boma or Jiko: wander over the viewing area and watch THE ANIMALS eat first :teeth:
