Does adding extra people at check in still work?

The only problem I see with adding people at check-in, as it always has been the case, is when the room assignor gave you a room that does not fit the guests that you would like to add, and there is no availability in the hotel. This also happens at WDW, and I cannot see possibly how Disney could fix that.

I always worry about that and try to mitigate by emailing around what I hope is room allocation time - about a week before arrival - to tell the hotel that i will adding guests. I think outside of very busy periods this is unlikely to be a problem but you never know. I did have a very rude check in CM once at the HNY who tried to refuse me but fortunately I had printed out the response to my email confirming my request so was able to stand my ground.
