Does a salad count as an app?

Anywhere or everywhere? I like the apps at most places, but some I don't like and my partner rarely likes any of them. Can she/we order a salad as an app?

At most places, yes, either a salad or soup can count as an appetizer ... I did read a report of 1 restaurant (but I forget which one, unfortunately) that said that ONLY things actually listed in the menu in the appetizer section counted. Sorry I can't remember which one.
