Does a hurricane cause bad turbulence?

I am the world's worst flyer. I already have my Xanax, but now am worried about the winds of Jeanne causing turbulence. I'm flying in at 12:30pm on Sunday. Anyone know what kind of flight problems Jeanne may cause?

We did hit a little more turbulance when we traveled in August. Charley was on the way (not a problem for us flying tho) and I think it was Bonnie(?) that was on her way out. We did fly over/around most of the bad stuff but still felt a little more than usual. I think you will find that most pilots will opt to go around not thru the 'bad air'.

I flew out of Orlando to Minnesota on September 15th (over Ivan) and we didn't have any more turbulance than usual.

You sound like me! I also have my Xanax ready.

And, like you, I've feared that the hurricanes and unsettled weather would cause lots of turbulance!

I hope you have a nice, calm, safe flight on Sunday!

Have fun!

We were supposed to fly in Sunday around noon as well, and the plane ride was what i was most concerned about, actually the landing. Hope it goes smoothly!

Airline pilot here - I concur.

We also flew over the remnants of Ivan, on Sept. 17. It was no more turbulent than any other flight. The only time we even had a little was when descending through the clouds. Our pilot even said that if things got bumpy we would go around or go higher.

We ran into Ivan last Thursday (around Atlanta) Our pilot had forewarned us and right on schedule things got a little bumpy, but not bad. As soon as we ran into it the pilot turned and went around it. The turbulence only lasted about 10 minutes max.

I flew during a hurricane last year(and I'm the worst flier!) and it wasn't that bad. Remember, drugs are your friends :P

Turbulence itself can't hurt airplanes. :)

I flew over Charley and thru Ivan recently and had no more turbulence than usual except a little bit on takeoff and landing as we were coming back down thru the clouds.

If you are a fearful flyer check out our online Fear of Flying support group at: http://p197.ezboard.com/bfearofflying16582 . Several airline pilots volunteer their time to answer questions to put your mind at ease about flying!

Several Disney fans over there too. Check it out!

I think the plane can fly above/around most of the bad weather!

You'll be fine. :) Have a great trip!!!
