We are taking jet blue to MCO, just wondering if a bag of food would count for a personal carry on? If we bring our movie camera does that count as a carry on as well? I would assume my pocketbook doesnt count as one? Thanks, Linda

You will have to read the baggage policies at Jet Blue to be sure but on Air Tran and Southwest you can take a carry on and a personal item (purse, laptop, diaper bag, camera bag, etc.) A bag of food that is meant to be eaten on the plane doesn't count as it's disposable.

Note that a "bag of food" purchased at the airport (or even at, say Subway on your way to the airport) is very different from any size cooler of food. RMAMom is correct - 'disposable' food doesn't, or shouldn't, count as a carry-on item.

Your pocketbook DOES count at one of your allowed items. Reasonably, why wouldn't it? A movie camera carried in either its own individual case or by itself can reasonably be expected to count toward one's carry-on allowance, since it's being carried onto the plane separate from one's other item.

I would recommend addressing this with Jet Blue, each carrier sets their own limits and regulations and if it were me I'd want to be sure I confirmed this directly with the carrier. You don't want any surprises when you go to board your plane.

The 1 carry-on and 1 personal item is a pretty much the standard across the industry. It may even be a TSA rule. The size of each though varies by airline.

I thought we were only allowed one carry-on/personal item per person. I did not know we could have a personal item and a carry-on per person. Thanks for info, Linda

Yes, one of each. The personal item has to fit under the seat. Purse, laptop, backpack, camera bag.

You are allowed 1 PERSONAL ITEM and 1 CARRYON item...A purse COUNTS as an item.Be aware that since the luggage fees went into effect last year, people have been trying to carryon larger or more items to avoid fees. If there is NO room in the bulkheads or under your seat, you will be required to check the item...Not to get all preachy, but my recent flight was delayed AGAIN due to someone who though that the rules did not apply to them , brought on a carryon that would not fit and was asked to check it and argued to the point security had to get involved.

I take a regulation sized carry-on and a tote bag. The tote bag is big enough to hold my purse, a book, snacks, jacket, etc. The tote counts as my personal item. I put the tote under the seat so I have easy access to everything I might need during the flight.
