Anyone gone to Vero Beach during Spring Training? I have noticed a lot of east coasters on this board but I am from So. Cal and I would love one day to take my Dad and FIL to Dodger Spring Training one day. Anyone done it? any advice?

I haven't been to a Dodgers spring training game in a few years. My parents live in Vero and we made a trip down late one winter. This was BC (before children). The facilities are very nice and you can get very close to the players while they are warming up before the games. There was roped off areas but for the most part you can see the players up close. The games are great and arrive early to get parking see the players before the game. Last time we went I saw Sandy Kofax(sp?) helping out with the pitchers and I saw Don Drysdale on the field. It was a year or two before he died. Tommy Lasorda drove pass us in a golf cart and gave us a big hello and a smile. It was a great day :thumbsup2

We went to Marlins spring training last year, and it was a blast. Also, DVC has a special promotion during Spring Training at the Braves site in Orlando. Neither the Spring Training schedule nor the DVC promotion are advertised very far in advance, so you have to keep checking.

You'd think Spring Training tickets would be reasonably priced, but you'd be wrong. They're expensive, but really a lot of fun.

Last spring, we stayed at SSR, but drove to 5 different spring training games in 5 different parks/towns, including Atlanta Braves at WDW. It was alot of fun. The ballparks are smaller so you are closer to the action. It was neat seeing the teams and the ballparks. We hope to stay at VB and check out a number of games from there some year.

Here is a website that I found very useful. It has pictures of the stadiums, directions, schedules, etc.

A big thumbs up to Spring Training. Being from CA, of course, the Dodgers right in Vero would be a big draw. The Mets are also a short drive away in Port St. Lucie --- they have a great stadium. Games at Disney have all the special Disney touches you might expect. Last year (first Spring Training trip) we got to see the Braves play LA and Tommy Lasorda was in the stands. He was a great guy -- he let the ushers bring people (mostly children) to him throughout the game and he chatted with all of them and signed some autographs.

Early January is when the schedules come out. The Yankee games at WDW tend to sell out pretty quickly and you really need to buy them the day they start sales. Other games are also brisk sells but not as crucial to be on the mark.

We just got back from Vero Beach and the word there is that the Dodgers are going to move out west (either Arizona or Colorado). It has been in the news there for a while according to the folks at the front desk.

The Dodgers may move.....but they also seem to raise this threat every few years.
