Hello... this will be my first time flying with my DD since she was considered a free flying passenger. Since she has her own seat now do I need to bring her birth certificate or anything??? We are flying Delta.

Thanks

No, it is not NECESSARY. Only passengers 18 and over must have picture ID.

I know you said you got a ticket for your dd, but I just wanted to say that if anyone has a lap baby, they need to bring age documentation.

And BTW, I called SWA to ask them if I had to get a boarding pass for our lap baby and they said since I booked online, I was supposed to call them and add the baby to the itinerary. Good thing I called!!! The woman at SWA said that what I should do next time is when I'm typing in my name online, I add after my name "plus infant". Hope this helps someone.

Pardon me while I digress...

When DD was 3 months old it did not evern occur to me to bring age documentation because she was so obviously under 2 (and I didn't recall needing it for my older DD when she was lap-age - they may have changed the rules here in the past 3-4 years or so between my kids...) Anyway, the check in agent -- I believe her name was Snotty McBiotchy pants -- threatened to not let me board the plane or require me to buy the baby a seat because I didn't have documentation. Thankfully, Snotty McB's grinch-sized heart must have gotten a small burst of extra blood because she eventually relented and let me through. Might have had something to do with the check in agent next to her who looked at me, then my DD, then Snotty McB, and said "you're kidding me, Sheryl, right? Don't be a jerk." :lmao:

Fast forward 2 months when I was flying with the now 5-month old...I have my trusty documentation (everything but a dispensation from the Pope) and hand it to the check-in agent who says "you don't need that, hon - she's clearly under two!"

Go figure.

Jackie

We went ahead and got passports for the kids a few years ago. Before too long they are going to be required anyway, and it's certainly a great form of identification.

I would never consider travelling anywhere with my son without his birth certificate or some kind of ID.

is an actual birth certificate required or would a copy be ok? What airline were you guys flying that was being so strict with babies?

That's hilarious, glad it all worked out.

Anytime you are flying with a "lap baby" (under 2), you should have documentation. Southwest is strict about it, but I'm sure the others are too.
