Doctor's notice in office says don't eat Pop Rocks candy

Well, I wasn't sure exactly what you were laughing at - and I didn't want people to think Mikey's actually dead ;)

I'm not going to comment on the OP's trust in her doctor. But, I agree these types of stories have ruined halloween in many areas. I don't know for sure if the stories my Mom told me as a kid are real about razors in apples, but our town canceled TOT for many many years. They offered instead TOT in a safe environment of the public school. It was a great idea, but like so many great ideas, the funding wasn't there. It ended about 15 years ago. Now our town has both, TOT, and a student run halloween party at the HS run by the students of Student Gov. There young kids do crafts, TOT in the hall classes, and the older kids venture into the "haunted hallway" nice way for the Student Gov kids to raise money. BUT, I still go thru all my DD candy & if not in a sealed wrapper/box......I eat it. :lmao: jk I throw it.

:thumbsup2
If my doctor was actually stupid enough to believe and report to others that sealed packages of Pop Rocks contained a Meth drug- it would be time for a new doctor. :headache:

:thumbsup2 I couldn't agree more. :hippie:

I can't imagine a real doctor saying that.

Maybe he's not a real doctor and just slept at a Holiday Inn Express last night!??!?! :rotfl2:

And I agree with the others...I'd be finding a new doc ASAP!!

I don't know, I know a lot of intelligent people who believe emails. I wouldn't have a hissy fit, but I would let the doc's ofc. know.

I know one school in our area sent home notes about the lsd tattoos, and that is 40 years old!

I just wanted to clarify that the doctor's office had the sign posted about this candy. I asked the doctor about it and she feels kids could get their hands on this "pop rock meth candy". I remember the note sent home from school about those lsd stickers. Anyway, I still believe it's a good idea to let your kids know not to take "pop rock" type candy from anyone.

Why? :confused3

Not sure why this thread is on the Budget Board?

yeah really.. a drug dealer handing out free meth laced pop rocks is not very budget friendly for him.

Not necessarily. I, personally, just continue to let my kids know to only consume candy (including Pop Rocks) that are in their original, sealed packaging. Pop Rock type candy can't be the meth stuff, if it's still sealed in the Pop Rock wrapper. THAT has never, ever been found, not even once.

My reason is that suppose a child has some pop rock candy in his hand and offers some to your child....if your child doesn't know not to take this type of candy it could be a dangerous situation. I'm a worrier guys, I know there are adults/teenagers out there who could leave out their drugs and some innocent child could get their hands on it.
I wouldn't be even thinking about this situation with "pop rock candy" if it were not for a sign in my doctor's office:confused3

Where I worked we sent our letters to parents regarding stamps that were supposedly being passed out and when you licked them there were drugs on them.

I can't seem to find any info on google, but I am assuming this was a scare that was also unfounded.

But can you find a documented case of this actually being a problem? Suppose and could will make you insane with unfounded worry.

I did not look to see a documented case but as long as I tell my kids I won't have to worry too much. To me it's just like telling our kids not to smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol to help to help them be aware.

Why not tell them tell not to eat unpackaged candy. If the pop rocks are in a sealed candy package then it is not actually meth.

This is logical....

It makes no sense to tell a child "don't eat pop rocks". There is nothing wrong with pop rocks, just some insane story about them and meth.

Tell the kids not to eat anything they are given by people they don't know that is not in the original factory container. That would work a lot better then continuing to spread a well known and false story.

^This. It shouldn't be a pop rocks issue; if anything*, it should be an unopened candy issue.

*And if a classmate is handing my child a piece of candy, I'm really not sweating that too much, either.

Other than the fact that they are pop rocks - evil little bits of sugar with no redeeming nutritional value. But frankly, that's what Halloween is about.

A good rule is "don't take candy from strangers" - just on a general principle, a person really should accept much from strangers - even grown ups. Halloween is an exception to this, but you want all treats to be packaged and store bought. In my case, not because I'm afraid of drugs or razor blades, but because I have no idea how clean your kitchen was where you made homemade popcorn balls and caramels.

:lmao:, You'd be surprise how MANY doctors believe this and more:sad2:
