Doctor Strange (2016)
I'm sure it's not impossible but I'd be shocked if Marvel Studios put out a bad movie at this point. Along with films like Iron Man, Thor, and Ant-Man, Doctor Strange continues the tradition of making me care about characters I had no interest in beforehand. In this story, brain surgeon, Stephen Strange loses his physical abilities for such delicate work through unfortunate events. He turns to the mystic arts and with the help of his photographic memory, masters magic. Director Scott Derrickson normally handles horror and brought some scary aspects to this film but nothing my 11 year old son or 8 year old daughter had a problem with. (My daughter did, however, despise the surgery scenes.) Benedict Cumberbatch owns the lead role and adds the perfect amount of humor we've come to expect from a Marvel Studios project. For the Strange experts, there are those superhero iconic images that show off the DS look which includes close ups of the beard, cape, and medallion. This movie takes us into a new, unexplored Marvel world and sets us up for a wild ride to Infinity War! Fun fantasy film to carry the overall story forward. 3 1/2 Spells out of 5. Next up for Disney is Moana.
