A friendly warning that docking bay 7 is not tree nut allergy friendly, in case it will help someone else…

We had a whole Star Wars focused afternoon planned yesterday, including oga’s and a lightsaber build for my youngest. Plan was to finish off the day at docking bay 7 for dinner. I put my mobile order in early, and selected the kids tip yup (chicken) from the allergy friendly menu for my two tree nut kids. When we arrived for our order thankfully the cast member had flagged it and pulled me aside. I was told there are tree nuts in the chicken, as well as the other menu items. I asked why it appeared on the allergy friendly menu and she did not know. We were refunded our order (and embarked on a wild goose chase to find dinner at 6:20pm, that’s another story.)

Wanted to share in case it might save someone else the hassle (or worse an allergy scare) should they think the menu is safe. I am very grateful I selected the allergy offering and didn’t assume!

I will be emailing special diets so they can update that menu. Disney is usually stellar with allergies and indeed in this case thanks to the cast member. A good reminder to always ask, and always order off the allergy menu, even if it is extra hassle.

It's a shame that happened. Disney's always been really good about allergies and intolerances (I'm Celiac), but yes, we always have to do our own due diligence. Problem in your situation is that is was shown as 'safe' on the menu. I wonder if anyone else would have 'caught' this even if you had asked. Thank God for that alert CM!

That's not good at all. I wonder what kind of tree nuts? My mom has a similar allergy and we wouldn't have expected there to be nuts in the chicken either. Thanks for the warning to be extra cautious!

Probably almond flour in the breading.

Just got a call from Special Diets regarding the email I sent - they were super helpful and explained that because Docking Bay 7 prepares food for the milk stand, which uses coconut, that was the “tree nut” warning I was given (and why it was still showing up in the app.) So we could have eaten there, but I still appreciate the CM being extra cautious. A good reminder to me to never assume as well and always order off of the allergy menu!

Wow, that's random.

Have to LOL at coconuts being considered tree nuts. Sorry, but no, it's a fruit and someone with a tree nut allergy can safely eat it all day long.

Haha That’s funny. Maybe someone was confused about what the actual allergen was? Coconuts are stone fruit which can be an allergen. Our son has a stone fruit allergy so we have to be careful about raspberries, blackberries, olives, coconuts, etc. Thankfully it doesn’t cause anaphylaxis for him, but we know if something in that fruit family sneaks in. His lips, cheeks, and eyes swell up and he gets red blotches all over his face. Those are all followed by gastric distress. We thankfully have never had this happen to him at DLR but we’ve never gotten him food from Docking Baby 7 before.

Poor kid. Stone fruits are the best.

Gosh, I didn't even know that was a thing! So sorry for your son. It must be tough to always have to stay vigilant when you're not at home!

They so are!! It’s pretty rare to have this kind of allergy this young, I guess most people develop it when they are teenagers or older. His doctor said it could get better or worse with age. We’re really hoping he grows out of it.

Hoping the same for ours. Adds another layer for sure!

That is so tough! My younger son had very rare food allergies from the time he started on solid foods until about 2 years and was also told he might grow out of them. They were just vomit, not anaphylaxis but still stressful. We were so happy when he did grow out of them! Hope that happens for you!
