Do your relatives think you're nuts??

While no one has ever said anything to us, I'm sure a few of them have wondered what the deal is.

However, my brother and his wife totally get it. DB is an Imagineer and DSIL worked on Main Street at DL in the 80's and early 90's. When I talked with DB about DVC, he was VERY happy to assist in getting the discount. He has been sent to live in Orlando long term twice now - once for Kali River Rapids and most recently for Mission Space. They still don't get tired of it and it's still magical for them. In fact, DB was pretty darn excited about the Tree House Villas and DSIL said that she would be happy if she could spend at least one day a year in Epcot....

So, at least there's someone who gets it...

Another thread asked if you had relatives that owned DVC?

That got me thinking???

Do your relatives think you've lost your mind???
no they just cant understand why it is a grown up is so in love with all things disney...i try to explain that there is an entire group of ppl that love disney the way i do so its not that crazy
if so...do they know how many points you REALLY own?
if they knew how many points i owned then it would require me talking to them more and explaining how points are different than weeks...on and on and on and possibly me looking like more of a fanatice than i really am
Do they know about your DIS habit?
I think two of my sisters and my cousin know...my dis habit requires me to speak to them less...they dont really get the concept, but one sister who is taking her son to wdw in august needed some immediate answers which i didnt have and i posted it on the theme parks board and receive instant response...she was IMPRESSED
Have you mentioned addonitis to them?
no...because they are still confused about the whole points thingy...though i did call my guide on monday, june 22 to ask if there were any OCT UY BCV pts and he said yes so I think I have or am in the process of adding on...my first add on once its done...and now i see why its so easy to add on:cloud9:its very scary...but I think I have enough points for now:scared1:
Do they think your obsession is unhealthy?
I dont know maybe they talk about me behind my back...I do know that they thinking me wanting to get married at WDW is CRAZY
Let's hear the details.

I'm Tam, I'm a Disney-holic. Its been 3 months since my last visit. I made new reservations last week for January.
Hi Tam (just like finding Nemo)
My folks think I've flipped. We own 100 points, but they think we must own thousands. They know about the DIS. One sister knows about our addonitis. They haven't said, but yes, I think they think our obsession is unhealthy.

Afterall, weren't we just there???

this is probably the longest and most detailed post I have ever made...I should be getting ready for work OMG

I don't think most of my family quite gets my obsession nor do most people i work with. I get a few snide comments at work so I pretty much keep it to myself, but guess who people come to for advice when they want to plan a Disney trip. I really enjoy helping and advising people on their trips, kind of gets me in my planning mode. I really hope my advice sinks in because I want them to enjoy WDW as much as I have.

Most of our family and co-workers think we're nuts. They always ask....."Are you going to visit Disney, AGAIN?" like we've lost our mind or something. As someone said earlier, you either "get it" or you don't--there's not a lot of in-between. My thought is "who cares?" Life is short--enjoy the heck out of it every day you can!:cool1:

Don't you want to say "ARE you going to the beach AGAIN" when they tell you they are going to same place they vacation every year!

Sometimes I think my family is crazy.....but they are still family

I have been told that I am in a rut since I go to Disney often. Personally, I think that they are jealous since none of them travel and the one has only been to Dominican republic twice. When I jined DVC, they wondered, but I am the one having holidays. Unless they expeirence "the magic" they will never understand

My whole family thinks I am nuts (except for my kids). We go to Disney once a year. I am a DVC member. I am not rich and really can't afford it, but figured in the long run it will be worth it.
When we get back from one trip. I start planning the next. I go photo crazy in Disney. I am always trying to get may family and friends to come with us. I have read tons of disney planning books. I belong to the mickey moms clubs and a bunch of other sites. I love Disney!!!

Yes. They don't understand why we go back to Disney year after year.

One of our secretaries said to me, "I don't understand why you go to Disney year after year after year."

My response was, "Probably for the same reason that you go to the same condo and same beach in New Jersey every year for two weeks at a time."

She looked at me as if the response was apples and oranges. Somehow my Disney vacations are illogical obsessions while her beach vacations are totally understandable. :)

Do your relatives think you've lost your mind??? Nope - maybe they did the first couple of times we went back to Disney, but now they know we love it. Friends and family will often ask, "when is your next trip to Florida"

if so...do they know how many points you REALLY own? No - they don't know the points total, but they know we go for two weeks

Do they know about your DIS habit? - Yes, when I visit my parents sometimes my mom will read along with me.

Have you mentioned addonitis to them? We haven't really had addonitis yet - we did add on, but it wasn't something we fretted about for a while, we decided we liked going for longer and we liked AKV so we added on.

Do they think your obsession is unhealthy? No - but obsession is part of my personality so they've been dealing with it for years - LOL

Let's hear the details.

I'm Shelly. We own 290 points, which is not quite enough to go every year for two weeks in a 1 bedroom, so we either go about every year and a half, or we stay in a regular resort for part of the trip. Our last trip was December of 2008 (17 days - 15 at SSR0 and our next trip is scheduled for January of 2010 (at least the first week at AKV -can't book the second week yet)
