Do your pets have quirks?

We had a golden retriever that hid in the bath tub during storms. And every morning she would wait in the bathroom until we let her lick the deodorant. When we came home if there were messages on the machine and we forgot to say hi to her first she would hollow so loud no one could hear the message, She was so sassy.

We have a cocker spaniel that bites if you tell him his hair is fluffy or his ears are curly and perfers to be completely shaved then he thinks he is big and tough.

Both my pups like some vegetables, especially carrots. I can sit here and toss the baby carrots to them as they "sit at attention" and catch them.

Now, Skippy (the trouble maker) recently graduated from a crate to being in the bathroom while we're out. He has more room in there, a little rug he can lay on. I came home one day and he was out! So the next time we were leaving the house, we waited around a bit. I wanted to see which dog opened the door. Sure enough, Skippy did it from the inside! We could hear him pawing at the handle until it finally opened. Ha! So now I just let him stay in the house with Max. So far so good.

Simba takes one look at his Mommy, purrs and lays on his back, and then gets a belly rub. He is so handsome and has such a rubbable belly.

One of our cats adores people feet. He will try to grab feet as they go by (gently) and he flops over on top of feet that are still particularly if they're bare.

Our other cat chases dogs if he's out. Once I saw a Golden Retriever run by with our cat right behind. I strongly discourage him being out of course because he might run into that dog that won't run someday.

Our cat, Woody, will not drink water out of his bowl- only out of a cup! We fill up large plastic tumblers for him and leave them next to all of the sinks in the house. He also loves to perch on our shoulders. He will leap up from the floor and land in our arms, then climb on up to his vantage point on the shoulder. He is happy to be carried around like this and would do it all day long if we let him.

My mom's cat, Lucky, loves stinky stuff- he lays on my dad's smelly Birkenstock sandals, with what can only be described as a grin on his face! When I was in college, I'd come home every couple of weeks with a bunch of dirty laundry, and he would lay in it like he was reclining on a cloud!

Our older dog will only eat in the dining room. Her food dish has always been in the kitchen, but her whole life, she picks up a big mouthful of food, walks about 5-6 feet into the dining room, drops it on the floor where she will eat it. If you give her a treat she always carries it to the dining room to eat.

Jazzy is like that. She rarely eats her food AT her bowl in the kitchen...or even on the rug in the kitchen...no...she grabs a mouthfull and runs to the family room (a good 15 feet away) to eat.

I our old house (a raised ranch) she would get her food from the kitchen and bring it all the way down the hallway to our bedroom and eat it there. (Lovely at 2am!) Now, in our new house, we have a colonial (bedrooms upstairs)...she still does it sometimes...long walk from the kitchen though!

She loves to have her picture taken too...and goes absolutly BONKERS when I pull out the vegetable peeler (because 9 times out of 10 I'm peeling a cucumber...which is her favorite).

My all time favorite thing to watch her do is sleep...she contorts her body into the oddest positions...we have dubbed one "the statue of liberty"...she's on her back...with one leg sticking STRAIGHT UP while the rest of them are curled down against her body. Sometimes she throws a half twist into her body...but still with the one leg up. too funny.

My beloved ferret Apollo , may he rest in peace, had a fetish for gloves. Any size, any material....he just loved gloves. That was the only thing he'd steal. He had a huge stash of them under the couch for the longest time.

Monty dog , my current pet, loves plants. He likes smelling them and he is ridiculously gentle with them. It's bizzarre. He's supposed to be a hunting dog (JRT) but birds, small mammals, lizards etc. he has no interest in whatsoever, or he's afraid of them.

He's quite the botanist though.

My cat, Clarice, fetches anything you throw and brings it back to you.

She also has a thing for bathtubs. She just started sleeping in one AND she sits on the side of the tub to drink the water when I'm in the bath. No matter if its 110 degrees or full of suds.

I also can't go to the bathroom without her meowing her way in. I have to call her and wait for her to come in or she'll sit outside the door and whine til I open it. It's not like she's missing much action in there...I mean I AM going to the bathroom!

My cats can all be kind of strange. My Mr. Red who died last year loved to clean your ears. He just loved the taste of earwax!

Trixie hunts socks all night long (she is over 18). She opens my sons drawer and gets them out and makes this goofy noise coming down the hall and takes them to my other son's room. If she can't get the clean ones then she'll jump in the laundry basket and get the dirty ones. She only hunts white ones and found them even when he threw his old dresser away and put them in a new one on the other side of the room. She didn't even hesitate, just went right to them.

Alien (Trixies 17 yo daughter) likes to lay on my son's shoulders (butt on one and head on the other, stretching around his back) while he's on the computer and will stay there even when he gets up.

I could go on and on.

I've only had my cat, Mystic, for about four months but she sure does have a few quirks!! If I am standing in the kitchen, she will come up behind me, reach up and "pat my butt" several times with her paws!! She will also sometimes lay down on the floor and grab my foot with her paws and give me little love bites. And she has to follow me around the house when I shut windows, getting her little face right down to the handles while I shut them.

The one "quirk" I wish she would stop is NOT "covering up her business" in the litter box!! I guess mama cat never taught her to do that!!

I use to have a cat named Misty that would lay in the bathroom sink. That was the only place she would sleep. At night if you went to the bathroom she would race you to jump up on the toilet. One night my mom was a little to fast (or slow, not sure which) and had the lid already lifted and Misty thought she was jumping up and ended up in the toilet.

My cat always scratches the floor around his food dish after he finishes eating - but it doesn't matter if it's empty or not. As soon as he's had enough, he scratches away. Almost as if he's "burying" the food.

He also tends to meow as he's jumping. He's very big, but doesn't realize how big he is. So he's always trying to fit in places he's too big for. Every so often, we'll hear a "meow!" as he jumps on something, followed by a "thud" as he falls off because he can't fit.

He refuses to play with store-bought cat toys. He's perfectly content with drinking straws and twist ties.

And finally, his nose runs when he gets comfortable sitting on someone's lap (ew!). He does sneeze a lot, so we think he has allergies. I like to say he's allergic to cats.

Trapper is a 90 lb. golden retriever. He hates when you mess with his tail...but he will stand and chase his tail to no end. When he finally gets ahold of it with his mouth, he gets in a funky position. His head goes undera paw and he trips but manages to hold onto that tail!! He also loves underwear and socks. Clean or dirty, it doesn't matter.EEEWWWW!!!

Jazzy only likes the expensive stuff from Victoria's Secret.

She chewed up so much one year that DH actually went out and got me a gift certificate so I could replaces some of it.

We have a Lab that's afraid of water (and just about everything else). Probably should have named her Eeyore since that's who she acts like.

We have a 13 year old Bichon (that we rescued) that is deaf with a metal hip. Gets around pretty well though.

We have a 2 year old Bichon that thinks she is either a cat, a mountain lion or a squirrel (and she runs the house). She climbs up on the backs of chairs and railings etc. and surveys her domain, pounces on people, etc.

Yes. I have two cats that have quite a few quirks.

One cat (the older one) will almost always get underfoot and squirm around on the floor whenever I get the ironing board out.

The other one will almost always try to eat the little rock hard cat food crumbs that have spilled out of the food bowl when I pick up them up for cleaning/feeding.

Our Maltese - 2 1/2 yo Gracie likes to drink water out of the outside faucet, not in a bowl. I guess she likes it fresh!!! She also doesn't like her paws touched or like the sound of scratching on the couch, she goes crazy and howls.

Our Cocker Spaniel - 9 yo Riley thinks he is a person and likes to play hide & seek with our 7yo DD. She will go and hide and we tell Riley to go find Sissy. He will run all over the house looking in every room to find her.

My Mom's Dog (a cockapoo) sleeps on her back with all four legs in the air.

Whenever my cat is around and sees me open a bottle of water, she gets all excited. She'll sit next to me and I have to fill the cap over and over so she can drink from it. She also thinks there is no better toy than a broom when I am sweeping.

My late bearded collie would always get a Milkbone treat in the evening. I would say "Harley, cookie time" and he would run for the box. Four small bones was his magic number. If I put down two or three he would stand there and stare at me until I gave him a fourth. Then he would take one down to the family room, eat it, and come back for another. Wouldn't eat them in the kitchen.

We live under the pattern of a nearby military base, and my arthritic dog chases the airplanes everytime they fly overhead! It is about the only exercise she gets anymore.

Our cat loves to talk (part Siamese). Not so bad except when she wanders in from outside at 3am, and wants to chat with you, at the top of her lungs!!

Also, both the cat and the dog use the same water bowl. If it is empty, and I refill it with both of them waiting, the dog will actually sit and wait for the cat to get her fill. Pretty cute.
