Our roads do not have lines down the middle.

Ours either! Or lines at the edge. If you live in a city, or a suburban area, it is one thing. If you live out in the country, on a street that is surrounded by woods, and farms on the other side of the woods, it is very different. And very peaceful...and a lot more fun (IMHO).

We live out in the county (and the "city" are very rural twin towns of 100,000 total).....we have no sidewalks, no streetlights, etc. The lots are at least one acre each.....the kids play on the cul de sac all the time- we only have 6 houses on our street, so the only reason to be driving down our street is because you live there or are visiting one of us! Kids think the street is part of the play area- and it really is pretty safe. BUT- our situation is highy unusual. When we lived in town I wouldn't have let the kids play in the street under any circumstances.

I voted "no"

I live on at the end of a dead end street where we rarely have any cars, but I still don't want my kids in the street. It's an accident waiting to happen.

My son is aloud to play basketball in the street as long as there is an adult playing with them. I don't think he is ready to play on his own yet. He will be 8 next month so he is still young.
