Do your kids have snacks in school?

Does the school supply it or do you have to send it in? I have never heard of snacks in school after K before the dis..

Not the poster you quoted, but our school is the same, K-5 and it is either.....you can send something in, or the school will provide a fruit/veggie snack (its 50 cents and they just take it out of the child's lunch account.) The kids can also purchase a milk for snack if they want.

I work in the HS and the kids there will often grab a snack with their lunch, come back through for a snack or come and grab something to take back to class on the way out of the lunch room (immediately after eating lunch..lol) so even the "big" kids like their snack time...lol

I don't have a problem with any of it.

My kids had snack time in kindergarten but since they had to sit at the table instead of playing at choice time neither of them wanted a snack. My oldest didn't have snack time in first grade because her teacher was afraid that food attracked bugs but the other first graders had snack time. I remember having recess 3 times a day and buying recess milk for 5cents a day along with a snack from home if wanted.

DD brings a snack but hit has to be fruit, veg or cheese. Her teacher just had them put it in their desk and then they could have it anytime when she wasn't directly instructing. It was nice since the older kids eat lunch on the late shift and DD gets hungry.

When I taught in private school, all the lower school kids (K-5) had an organized snack provided by the school.

The elementary school my children attend goes from Jr.Kindergarten (age 4) to Grade 8 (13/14 yr olds). The Jr/Sr Kindergarten classes are only half days, but the rest have snack time (okay, now they call it "Nutrition Break") at10:25 and then their lunch break at 12:40. They have outdoor recess for 15 minuted before the morning snack, and have 40 mins of outside play time before they eat their lunch. They bring their own lunches and snacks. Generally, public schools in Canada don't have cafeterias or lunch rooms.

My dd goes to a K-6 elementary school, and all grades have snacks. The snacks are provided by the parents and the teachers request that you only send healthy snacks. They do not allow the kids to eat sweets or junk food at snack time, but they can bring those things in their lunch. The kids get three recesses a day, and the snacks are eaten during the morning recess and afternoon recess. (The third recess is immediately after lunch, so no snack then obviously.) From my observation and personal experience, it also seems that all of our teachers allow water bottles at the students' desks throughout the day.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.. but its just not something that was ever done in my school. Its just strange to me Wonder if other schools around me have snack time after K.

In high school we had a "book store" that sold snacks/soda/etc and was operated by a class. We didn't have a "snack time" but we were allowed to eat lunch at the book store (or in the cafeteria) and there were snack machines available even when the book store was closed.

See all those things are now no no's because of this healthy foods thing that most schools do.. no soda allowed no koolaid type drinks. Must be real juice or water. Heck they are even supposed stop kids from eating unhealthy snacks you put into kids lunches now (thankfully our school doesn't have food police so this hasn't ever been a problem) For parties they ask you send healthy stuff not just cupcakes and candy again none of the teachers we've had so far have had a problem with what any of us have sent in (at least that I'm aware of) But apparently its okay for my school to serve funnel cakes for breakfast but candy and soda are forbidden in school

At our school, the K classes have an organized snack time during recess. Parents take turns bringing the snack for the whole class.

After K, the kids can have snack during the 10:00 a.m. recess. They have picnic tables outside of their rooms where they can stop and have their snack before going to the playground. If they aren't hungry or didn't bring a snack, they can go directly to the playground. My DS ate his snack until about 4th grade. This past year in 5th, he didn't want to spend his recess time eating. He said if you didn't get to the field right away the soccer teams were already chosen! The kids are not allowed to eat in the classrooms. Just at the designated tables during recess.

I dont think so but I'm not sure and the kids are sleeping I'll ask them tomorrow And yes my kids DO eat breakfast on the days they have funnel cakes.. wouldn't you? they are .40 and they come with juice or milk and fruit.. gotta keep it healthy after all

When I was in middle and high school I was in 4H and our yearly fundraiser was a funnel cake booth at the county fair. We made SO much money at that stupid booth. I can't stand funnel cakes now, after 8 years of a week of being covered in grease and powdered sugar. People go crazy over funnel cakes though! Ours cost (then) 4-8 dollars depending on the toppings and people would come and buy 5 or 10 at a time and take them home for later.

we had "working snack' as well in 1-6. K we had snack but that was because it was half day.

We started elem. school at 8:15 AM. So we were at school by 8AM. I usually ate breakfast around 7:15 or 7:30. We had lunch between 11:15 and 12:30 (depending on grade). so we would usually have a snack about 10AM.

A lot of kids in our area went to morning care at places like kindercare and would eat breakfast at home at around 6:30 so by 10 they wanted a snack.

It was never anything big. Just like apple slices, grapes, goldfish, etc.

In middle school and high school it was up to the teacher as to whether or not they allowed food in the classroom. Most did not have a problem with it which was great because in high school, we started school at 7:25 AM (I usually ate breakfast around 6AM) and we had four 30 minute lunch blocks (A-D) and they were anytime from 10:30AM to 12:30PM so if you eat breakfast at 6 AM and have 12:30 lunch, you are hungry before that and if you eat lunch at 10:30, you are hungry by 1PM

In the preschool where I worked we had morning daycare which was 7:30-9, preschool from 9-1 and afternoon daycare from 1-6. We had 2 snacks during the day plus lunch. so we had morning snack around 10, afternoon snack after nap around 3:30 and lunch was at 12:15

My son had snacks in K and 1st. It was at an odd time, too. School started at 8 and lunch was 11:20. Snack time was 10-ish. He brought a snack from home.

He was always starving when he got home! I don't know what 2nd will be like.

That was the "chocolate sundae" funnel cake. It was a funnel cake, ice cream, chocolate, whipped cream, a cherry and nuts. The regular ones were 4-5 dollarsish.

My 3rd (now 4th...yikes!) grader got a snack. I think it is a good thing considering the bus runs at 6:45, and lunch isn't until 11:45. We provide the snack, but it has to be something healthy. I usually sent a banana or some apple slices.

I'm not sure how it will be 4th grade, i don't know if it is a grade-level thing or up to each teacher.

Our school has the parents send in a snack in kindergarten, and one of the first grade teachers gives a snack (parents donate some goldfish). Personally, I think it's a waste of time. School starts at 8:30, no one is more than 3 minutes from the school, and lunch is at 11:30. I think kids can go 3+ hours without eating. Kindergarten is 1/2 day, so they have snack right before they come home for the day, and aren't hungry for lunch.

My daughter gets recess every day at 9:30 for 15 minutes (school starts at 8and lunch is at 11:35) the whole school (P-6) has the same recess time. They get a few minutes of that time to have a snack before going out to play.

Wow, there are still schools that have both morning and afternoon recess?!? DS just has 15 minutes after lunch. He would love it if there were two!

His school (PreK-3) does have snack time, with snacks sent from home. The exact time is up to the individual teacher - those who have early lunch tend to have snack in the afternoon, and those with late lunch tend to do it in the morning.
