Do your kids have a TV in their room?

my kids have always had TVs in there rooms. To be honest, they were born with TVs in their rooms because all of their rooms had TVs already in them when they were born so we just left them when they became nurseries.

The only time the really watch is at night and in the early morning. They really don't spend much time in their rooms. Its really only a place they go when they want to get away from the family for awhile or to sleep. Most of the time they are downstairs or outside.

My girls have one in their playroom, w/o cable attached to it. It's only used for them to watch movies once in awhile. My 8yr old really wants one for her room, and I've told her no way:sad2: It's a personal parental decision of mine - I just don't believe she needs one in her room.

Yup - all 3 kids have TV's in their room - 3, 6 and 9 yo. No cable or satellite though - just for movies and only when I say. Overall we have 8 TV's, 3 computers, (2)tivo's and 6 DVD players plus (2) playstations and a V-Tech. (The games are not on their TV's though they're down on our main floor in our Family room, living room and study)

The issue here though is not if it's "OK" for children to have televisions. - That's subjective - the issue here is that you don't want your child to have a television in her room and your parenting decision was disrespected and disregarded. Your decision may be different from mine - but it's your decision and NOBODY has the right to go over you and go against your wishes. I'd be ROYALLY pissed.

oh I forgot to say that my son's Grandmom also bought him a tv- We put it in the playroom.(Grandma was mad saying it was for HIM not all the kids and I said HE wanted it in the playroom..He really did.

DD's had one in her room since she was about 8. Her first one was a tv/vcr combo that she used to watch movies and play Nintendo. She was at that age where she'd watch the same movie every day until I wanted to pull my hair out.

Now she's 16 and has a tv in there hooked up to the cable. She only watches a couple of different channels because the remote got lost and she has to get up to change it which she is too lazy to do. :lmao:

I, on the other hand, refuse to have a tv in our bedroom.

DS10 has a tv in his room, he got it for Christmas when he was in 2nd grade.

Santa will probably bring DD7 one for Christmas this year.

I'm not a perfect parent, and I'm certainly not calling those of you who disagree with me imperfect parents.
My kids have never had TVs in their rooms. Or computers. I have a 34 y/o ds, a 30 y/o dd and a 13 y/o dd. My 13 y/o dd does have two different 'playrooms' with TVs in them. She has access to the computer in our guestroom. But, other than her radio and DVD player, she has nothing in her bedroom.
We already have plenty of TVs in our house....dd certainly does not need one in her bedroom.

No and never will. No computer either.

No.

I don't care what anyone else does. Raising their kids is none of my business.

That being said, we purposely made the kids' rooms small, and have no plans to put a computer or tv in there. I want them to spend time with us, not holed up on their rooms. It may be wishful thinking, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

We do have a tv/vcr in the playroom which is not connected to cable, that they might use when friends are over to watch a movie. Normally if they want to watch someone other than what we are watching, they will go in our room.

Our daughter has had a tv in her room, a princess one mind you, since she was very young. However, she does not have a computer in her room, that IMO is dangerous, especially as they get older.

The PC my daughter is allowed to use is in our family room where its is hard for her activities online to go unnoticed. I think a PC in a child's room is far more of a threat than any television could ever be.

Do your kids have a TV in their room?

Nope. We have a 42 inch t.v. in the livingroom and Tivo. We Tivo their favorite shows and they can watch them at their convenience.

When we had T.V. Turnoff Week at DS's school, I noticed how many junk shows we had taping on the Tivo (I had to keep deleting them so the Tivo wouldn't overflow). We deleted several of the shows, but are still taping up to 2.5 hours of children's programming each day.

DS 10 has one. He's had it since he was 7 yo. It is NOT hooked up to our satellite dish nor will it ever be. No reason to have that going on b/c I want to be aware of what he's watching. He ONLY uses the TV for watching movies on the DVD player. Also, he did have his PS2 hooked up to it ... but that moved to the basement when we got the big screen tv. He rarely watches the TV in his bedroom now.

Yes, both of mine have a tv in their room. My oldest mostly watches ESPN or some kind of ball game. My youngest watches either Nick or Disney channel. I do have a block on their tv so their limited to what they can watch esp DS8.

My kids all have their own tv. One plain black, one Bratz, one Princess , one Spongebob. They have no cable , just vcr,dvd players to watch their movies. I let them play their ps2 games in their own room because I do not like to sit in my family room and watch them play games. They do not sit in their rooms all day and watch tv though.

No televisions, computers or game systems in the bedrooms at my house right now. The tvs are in the den and living room, with three computers, two in the den and one in the living room as well. Tried the tv thing with my 17 year old. Allowed him to hook one up the first of this year. Kept finding him watching it at all hours of the night and having a hard time getting up in the morning (and don't even ask about the grades he received this past semester), tried to set the rules, but he just couldn't abide be them, voila television has been removed for good. I will not make the same mistake with DD10 when she is older. As for the computers, too much can happen for those to be in private areas. As it is DS17 tries to hide the fact that he is on myspace quite often which makes me upset but... gotta give somewhere I guess.

my 6 year old does...and a computer.

The TV is only hooked up to a DVD/VHS combo and I can't tell you the last time it was on. It has been months.

The computer has been in there for about 6 weeks since we are selling our house. It does have internet. However, he still asks permission to use it and never gets up at bedtime to sneak on the computer. We have monitoring software and I've checked.
