Do your kids carry anything?

My daughters are only 6 and 8 but I was looking for a way for them to carry thier own stuff at the parks (camera/sunglasses). Mainly they each take a dispoable camera to take their own pictures and it is kinda a pai digging them out of my bag so many times throughout the day. plus I like that they take pictures of different things, the eyes of a child.... So I was thinking of a small fanny pack but I know those are soooooo out of style lol. Thoughts?

We keep things to a mininum but yes if my dd's want something extra in the parks they carry it. We have done fanny packs but both kids found them uncomfortable. Sunglasses - they loose them :)

We usually go with a baseball hat and a water bottle strap (sold at the water carts) or a lanyard. I carry a sharpie and the characters sign the hat, no carrying or fumbling for an autograph book. If they want a camera they carry it or clip it to the strap or lanyard.

They usualy have pockets and will carry a few quarters and pennies for the machines and thats about it.

I wear a small fanny pack with my digital camera, cellphone, sharpie marker, a couple granola bars along with the room key, my ID, everyones park pasess, FP's etc.

I was thinking the same thing. I am the pack mule of the family. I hate carrying around 4 water bottles, it gets so heavy. I have a 6 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. - small backpack?

This time I am going to have my DD7 carry her own "bag/backpack" with her stuff. Camera, pen, autograph book, sunglasses, etc. Not to heavy, but it is a pain digging for them. I hope it works :thumbsup2

I think fanny packs are still the way to go for kids. I still see plenty of them around and they're so functional that I can overlook their dorkiness!

Each of my boys has a small fanny pack that they've carried to WDW and DL. They carry snacks (granola bars, bags of peanuts, etc.) and any little souveniers they pick up along the way. We've also found a great way for them to carry their baseball caps when they're not wearing them. I put a caribeener hook on the strap of the fanny pack. When they need to take off their caps for a roller coaster, they can just hook it onto their fanny pack. I got really tired of 2 boys and my husband thrusting their hats at me before a ride. Now they can carry them securely all by themselves.:)

DD might carry a stuffed animal or her sunglasses but that is it. There's so much going on that I want her more focused on where she's walking (or putting ride straps on) than where to put her stuff. We also keep almost everything in DH's bag.

I always tell my kids if they want to take something they are going to carry it but of course I still end up carrying stuff. On our next trip i will have my bag and they will have one and take turns carrying it.

My kids both carry fanny packs. They have for the past three years. We spruced them up each with a Disney Iron on decal on the front. I then bought neoprene water bottle holders that the straps of the fanny pack slide through to carry their own drink. They carry sunglasses, pen, autograph book, camera, drink and a small snack or two like a granola bar and drink crystals. I got tired of being the pack mule too. This makes it so much easier.

I just bought my girls two child-sized fanny packs. I couldn't care less about style, I'm going for comfort, and ability to carry their own water and stuff!:lmao:

Love my fanny pack!!!!:rotfl: I know I know, but it does hold just what I need! My kids have these drawstring bags-they can use them like a backpack very lightweight I am thinking of that for our trip. I know either myself or husband will get stuck carrying bottles of water-camera-cell phone etc. I think if they want it with them they can carry it!!!!

I recently helped chaperone a group of 11 seven year old girls on a trip to Disney. Each girl carried a small backpack containing snacks, water bottle, and whatever personal things they wanted to bring....sunglasses, hat, etc.

Last month I took my own two - DD7 and DS5 to MK. I followed suit and gave them each their own backpack with snacks and a drink. Throughout the day when they wanted a snack, gum, candy, drink, whatever.....they didn't have to ask me, they just got it out of their own pack. It was wonderful! No more stopping every five minutes to get something in or out of my backpack.

Fanny Pack!

They may not look the nicest, but they don't get lost as easy!

My cousins had them on our first trip and they didn't complain. They even had ones that had a water bottle holder on it. I think they liked being able to grab a snack or water whenever they wanted/needed to.

Get a strap for the sunglasses. When they take them off they are around their neck.

My kids (8 & 11) both have 'daypacks'. They're a little bit bigger than a large hardback book (think the later Harry Potter books) & they can cram a lot into them. Usually they can get a Funtainer, a few snacks & anything else they just must take.
We get passes to our local Renaissance Faire every year & rule #1 is that everyone carries their own stuff. I am not a pack mule! So, daypacks are essential.

If you're looking for a great bag, visit this website & check out the 'Grace' bag. Nice size & holds a ton! We have one with an elephant print & it is referred to as the 'Magic Elephant Bag' because we can get so much stuff into it. We've crammed 3 bottles of sunscreen, first-aid kit, 7CDs, a DVD & a few other odds & ends & it all fit & still closed. I love this bag & it was worth every penny.

I always wear a small daypack in the parks (lime green, of course!) and am taking my DGD 2 1/2 in three weeks. I found the most adorable tiny backpack in pink and brown hearts at Kohls last weekend and plan for her to wear it just like her "Amah". We will see how it goes - she loves to imitate me and it may work - if not I will pop it into my pack....

DD has been required to carry her own water bottle since she was five. We got her a water bottle strap and she uses it. Also around that time we pretty much started a rule that if she wanted stuff, she had to carry it herself. DH and I limit ourselves to a very small fanny pack each. We got DD her own. She could fit her autograph book and pen and a few snacks. Now she's 17 and is past the autograph book stage but still has to carry her own stuff!

I found Minnie Backpacks in the parks that we smaller than a regular backpack. My DD delighted in being able to carry her own snacks, pins and whatever else she needed for the day. She is 7 1/2

DH and i tend to be the pack mules--I figure the kids have to work alittle harder to keep up with adult's long legs so I'll carry the few things they need.

I'm a big Jansport fan (backpacks, fannypacks). They're good quality and last long. I have one that i got before college nearly 20yrs ago!

Tired of the cheap character backpacks in Kmart, Target, etc. that usually last one school year before they're trashed, I bought DKids Jansport superpacks for school. They're big enough for snowpants & all school gear but still lightweight. They picked out a bunch of patches from craft stores and I spent (not fun for me) alot of time sewing them on--the glue or iron-on kind never seems to work for me. Now they have backpacks to last them MANY school years and we can change the patches if they want as they get older. Also theirs won't look like anyone else's in class.

I've only had the big Jansport packpacks or "superpack" but i've seen these "half pints" in stores like Kohls and online many places. They look really cute for kids though probably too small for school purposes. This time of year you can sometimes get a very good deal on them. They come in MANY colors and patterns.

Out of style or not--fannypacks are everywhere at WDW. When i don't need a backpack --its great to hold a few things. DS has used one and thought it was cool to be incharge of a few things.

My 4 year old boys carried small light weight backpacks with a drink, snack, sunglasses, lanyard and autograph book and pen. They carried them most of the time. They did great for just being 4.
Actually I got the cutest backpacks, here is a pic of it

Sorry the pic is so small, I cant get it any larger. the bag is adorable, there is a pocket on the inside for autographbook and pen, an additional zipper pocket an the big mickey head is a pocket too.
If you want more additional information where I got it PM me.

Even though its not terribly fashionable, my kids use the fanny packs. They have Disney ones from Mousegears. Its just large enough to carry their essentials and hard to leave behind on a ride or attraction unless they actually take it off. Never really gave much thought to the fanny packs being unfashionable on a kid...now if we were talking on an adult, maybe, but even then, at Disney the fashion rules go out the window for us.

I must way overpack for the parks

We are even taking the old stroller for the backpack to ride in.... and just incase DD (7) gets tired.
Yes I will be the mom pushing around the backpack in a stroller. :lmao:
Do you think I will need a ticket to get "him" in ?
