That really surprises me. Ours is a public school but we are always closed on Good Friday. A few years ago the powers-that-be decided they would open the schools on Good Friday but if you sent a note ahead of time it would be an excused absence. I think they ended up with something like a 10% attendance rate and they never attempted that again.
And our snow days were waived so they don't need to be made up!
We were supposed to have off Thursday, Friday and Monday, but due to snow days we now only have off Good Friday. I work for the school district and I would rather go to school those days than make them up at the end of the year. As of now (cross my fingers!) we are out on May 28.
I went to a catholic school from 1st through 8th grade and we always had a full day on Good Friday, complete with a trip across the parking lot to church for mass.
Our kids have school. I find it interesting that they had to rearrange the fall sports schedule to accommodate some other "services" in the fall but they hold school on Good Friday .
We are closed for the first time in many years. We would have so many staff members taking the day as a religious holiday in past years that the district would run out of subs. This year we are closed tomorrow.
