Do your Ebay sales drop in the summer?

I generally don't sell on Ebay in the summer because my sales drop so much, and I don't want to sell my stuff super-cheap just to get it sold. I tend to concentrate more on Amazon in the summer. Just wondering if other people have similar experiences or if Ebay has changed...maybe I need to start selling during the summer again!

I do Ebay as a part-time business and, though I may never quit my day job , Ebay and Amazon have helped pay for all my Disney trips in the last 6 months!

I first started selling last year in the summer and that is when I made the most. I guess it just all depends on what you are selling.

If you are selling winter coats I would imagine Auugst would be the wrong time to try to sell them

Thanks for the very interesting reply! I will post a few test auctions for my books this summer. I also have tons of non-books items (vintage do-dads...puzzles, games, home decor items) that I never get around to trying to sell--maybe I should try that stuff this coming summer.

As stated already, I too would think it would depend on what you're selling. However, on the eBay boards, a lot of sellers do feel that sales drop during the summer months. With so many people being on vacation and everyone wanting to get outdoors as much as possible, it does stand to reason that sales could be effected. The general concensus seemed to be to not always end your auctions on weekends. Ebayers on those boards seemed to feel that most people follow a regular routine through the week, well for the most part anyway. I can't verify what I'm saying is truthful, but thought I'd share what I had read anyway.

It depends on what type of books you're selling. I know that books dealing with home schooling go for a good bid of $. I've personally sold a lot of books on eBay and have never really done too well. Once, I sold a lot of 180 books. These were Scholastic, Arthur books, few Disney's (not many and these tend to go really low), just books from every child's bookclub ever invented. Most of them were hardback too. The auction ended at $150. For the thousands I literally had invested in these books, I didn't think that was too good, but I had no use for them, so I was happy to get that. I know I coulda and woulda done better had I sold them individually, but it would have been time consuming and I wanted them out of my house!

I also know those big history type books, the ones you buy from Time-Life etc...The ones you pay close to $50 for? I've seen them go for WELL under $10 each. eBAy is definitely the place to buy those type books!

Keep in mind, if you're talking 1st edition type books, then they'll definitely go for big $$$$ on eBay.

I guess it would depend what your expectations are. If getting a few bucks for something you have no further use for is your goal, then you should do ok. If however, you want close to what you paid for them, I would say eBay isn't where you want to sell em. Although I've never used them myself, I hear a lot of people have success at half.com. A sister company to eBay.
