For no reason I can hear, Wylie, my older dog will break out into spontaneous howl. Zoey just barks along, I don't think she knows how to howl.

When we had 4 dogs, all of them would join in and have a little chorus going. We could get our lab to howl if we started it for him. It's funny, I guess they are hearing something high pitched that I can't hear.

No, our golden retriever doesn't but a neighbor has a hound that howls ALL THE TIME. Drives me insane.

I used to have a malanois/german shepherd mix and she would howl when she heard a siren. She had puppies and dd (about 6 yo at the time) lined them all up in a row and taught them how to howl. :lmao:

Yep. We've had 2 cocker spaniels, and both howl(ed) at certain pitches. Our current cocker howls whenever emergency sirens go by, and apparently has taught this to the other dogs in the neighborhood.

....and we live just down the street from the fire dept....:firefight

The gentleman to the left howls at the slightest little noise outside -- it can be the dog next door's chain rattling or a raccoon two miles down the road. It drives me nuts, especially when it's really quiet and he decides to start up.

Funny, his sense of hearing is so keen when it comes to noises no one else can even think of hearing, but I can call him until I'm hoarse for a bath and he never materializes. :goodvibes

Our doodle howls when the fire whistle goes off. The other 2 quickly join in to make a trio. :goodvibes

We have two Redbone Coonhounds, and they would be considered "defective" if they didn't howl.:thumbsup2
However, the Shih-Tzu does not howl- he just barks and snarls.

2 beagles and three dachshunds here....boy is there some howling going on!! :dog:

I have basenji's...they don't bark.

My male will 'roo' every now and again while playing, which is pretty normal.

My female has made NO SOUND since we adopted her 8 years ago. Until last year. We had all three of our dogs in a large yard while staying at my brothers house. They were alone for a couple of hours and we heard one of them start howling. I thought for sure it was the male. I was astounded to learn it was the female!!! She's been quiet again ever since.

Our Corgi howls from time to time. He howls in the morning to greet us as we walk down the stairs. And he howls when the church bells ring on Sunday mornings (we live across the street from a church). I think he only howls at the bells because everyone else in the neighborhood does...:lmao:;)

Mine used to howl whenever I left. Not a good thing. I always felt so terrible leaving then.

My dog doesn't howl; she "Baroos"--typical of a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. Do the Bernese do that? I saw an Entlebucher that did and figured all 4 in the family must do so.

No howling. They barely bark.

Howling cracks me up, though.

You have a Swissie?! That's great! I had a friend that had 2 of them, they are great dogs.

I think Zoey is too dumb to howl, she just barks. But she doesn't bark when a stranger comes to the door, just when it isn't necessary.:rolleyes1

I've got one big Akita ... no howling. He rarely even barks (unless the lawn mower guy comes).

Now when I was a kid and we had up to 5 Mini-Schnauzers in the house at once, if the fire truck would go by with sirens on or something like that, they'd ALL start howling. We used to wave our arms in the air (to mimic an orchestra leader) while they were all "singing".
:rotfl2:

.

my dog howls, but he's a basset hound, that's what they do, lol. he is TERRIFIED of loud noises, especially banging or popping sounds, so every time he hears a gunshot (we live in the country, middle of nowhere) or fireworks or thunder, he howls like crazy. but i love him, he's pure comedy.

I have a beagle. Yep, he howls.

I also have a german shephard/chow mix and he sometimes howls when the beagle is howling and they get that little chorus thing going on. It's kind of cute for a minute or two then gets old. Other than that he doesn't really howl or bark, but he does cry which is really annoying.

We also have a lab mix, but he doesn't howl. He does bark though.

I grew up with a beagle and he howled... It's the nature of the breed. We now have a PBGV and he howls like crazy too! Darn those hound dogs! :)

My dog howls whenever anyone sings. Everyone's a critic!

I have 2 Dachshunds and YES they Howl...the boy(Mickey) does anyway, the girl (Princess Ladybug) had a stroke a few years back, is paralyzed, and she throws her head back and howls along, even though she has NO voice!:lmao: It is too funny!
