Do you work when your sick ?

Yes, generally as long as I don't have a fever or am vomiting.

Although the older I get, the more likely I am to actually take time off. The last time I had cold/flu symptoms, I didn't have a lot going on at work, so I wound up taking 3 days off and actually sleeping. It was the fastest recovery I ever had -- normally it takes two weeks for the cough to go away. Kind of a "duh" moment for me.

I so know what you mean, working sick is for the young up and comers

It depends on how sick. Mild symptoms, then yes. Full blown cold/etc., no. I teach preschool, and my director asks us to stay home if we are sick, so we don't "share"...

Absolutely not if I have something contagious or I just can't function. I rarely am that sick. I've been working part-time (25-32 hours/week) for the last 14 years straight (home with our boys for the previous 14) and I have 12 weeks of sick leave accumlated soif I need to take it, I do.

Yes, unless I'm really sick (kidney stone, bad flu or bad strep). I save my sick days for when my kids are sick.

I used to always go into work sick...1. because I didn't want to use up my sick days unless I had to, and 2. usually most of my jobs would give me a hard time about calling in sick.

But the last job I had, I went into work sick once (with a cold) and my boss at the time got so mad at me for it. He said I was being selfish for going into work sick because I could get everyone else around me sick. Needless to say he sent me home.

If it's a cold, I wash hands a lot and usually go in anyway. I had a HORRIBLE cold a couple weeks ago and stayed home though. Haven't felt that miserable in a long time.

Flu--I stay home.

I would feel somewhat self-conscious going in sick as I'm doing my final externship in a nursing home. I would feel awful if one of my patients got sick because of me.

I also think it's pretty rude to go to work sick, but I've done it. It's pretty much saying your $$$ is more important than your coworker's health. I have done it though. When I worked at Royal Caribbean, you lost lots of holiday pay if you were absent the day before or after a holiday. I got the flu the day before Thanksgiving and just suffered through it, trying to stay away from people.

I have an unusual knack for getting sick Friday night and being well by Sunday night. And I wish I was kidding.
I've used 17 sick days in the past 31 years.

Yes...unless I can't physically walk. I own my own business, a farm, and the horses must be taken care of everyday.

Normally, I would answer this way. HOWEVER, after having one of my kid's teachers come to work with the flu  and give it to us....I've decided to go in *especially* if I have a fever/symptoms. They're all sharing with us? I'll just share right back (is there an evil smile smilie?)

Low-Key - I agree, who wants to waste a good day reading/napping in bed when you are SICK?

I only call off when I am really really ill, like fever, vomitting, and other issues. If it is just a cold I go in and work. I might leave early but I always go in for awhile.

I do not have any sick days, so if I do not work, I do not get paid. Hurrah for per diem work, huh?

I work with migraines often, it is a challenge.

According to State of TN law, I am not supposed to work if I'm contagious.

I've probably worked when contagious sometime in the past 28 years though.

I rarely get sick. I think that is because I'm washing hair every 30 mins (or so) so I'm washing those germs away. :)

Last time I was sick was the first day of my WDW vacation in February--on my b-day! :(

Oh and if I don;t work, I do not get paid either.

Of course there are still companies that don't offer paid time off for illness or vacation or holidays. My wife's best friend works for a company like that. If she is sick, and takes the day off, she doesn't get paid. But the pay and bonuses are good enough that it really off sets that.

Luckly I dont get sick to often, but I dont like to call in unless its contagous or I cant walk.

I'm sick about 90 percent of the time since everything I eat upsets my stomach. (I have gastritis and acid reflux with a history of ulcers... Awesome.) My supervisor has ulcers and acid reflux so she knows the feeling and if I ever feel sick, she constantly asks if I need to go home and that she'll find someone else to come in.

I've never left though. I usually just suck it up or get sick at work and move on with my day. Like I said, I'm always sick these days so if I went home every time I felt bad, I'd never get any work done.
