Do you wish prison on Martha Stewart?

I have got a real kick out of the "talking heads" on the news stations (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) talking about the Martha Stewart case. They ask the experts over and over again how many months or years Martha Stewart will be put in Prison. Those experts that suggest that Martha will get only community service or probation and not have to actully serve any real time- are screamed at. It appears that most of the "talking heads" on TV want Martha to serve some serious time.

I think there is something in most of us that like to see that the rich and powerful get knocked down. We like to see someone like Martha suffer like the rest of us. I have to admit that I would like to see her in prison also, now that she has been convicted! Maybe because she reminds me of so many tough bosses and teachers I have had in the past!

How about you?

I don't know the whole case. I'm not very keen on Martha Stewart. She does have some good products. I've heard of her reputation (IMHO aggressive and opinionated men have a much nicer name in business than women.) but that doesn't have anything to do with her conviction.

Again, I don't know the whole case, but I wouldn't wish jail time on her.

No, I don't. I think our prisons are so overcrowded as it is.

It seems to me that people are always ready to send someone to jail until it is someone they know and care about. Then they make every excuse for them in the book.

If they convict some of the men doing this kind of stuff and put them away then go ahead and treat her the same...but I've heard that if she was a man then it wouldn't have gone to trial..

I feel sorry for the inmates of whichever "pen" she is sent to! As for what I hope happens to her, I could care less. I did not sit on the jury.

oops...sorry for double post :(

No, I do not think prison would serve a purpose in this case. True, she commited a crime, but IMO it has been blown out of porportion and only gotten this far because of who she is. Oh so many have done far worse and walked. I think there are many ways Martha has and will pay besides prison.

I'd like to see her in a real prison, not a country club prison.

So what if other people have gotten away with worse, that doesn't make it right. Lock her up.

I do not know what the Fed guidlines are. I would suspect if she gets any, it will be something between 6 months and 2 years. I suspect if she gets any it will be suspended while she is on extended probation and do community service and some kind of fine.

Something I did read somewhere was that she may bbe forced from any officer positions in her company because of the conviction. This is not part of her sentencing, it is part of other laws or rules. This conviction if it stands is already hurting her and her company. How much more it will hurt, time will only tell. What is fair is hard thing to judge.

Personally, I'd rather see murderers, rapist, druggies, and terrorist in prison!

No I would not like to see her go to prison. A hefty fine maybe but no I do not think she needs to be in prison.

I will like to add, when you loose the freedom to go where you want when you want is hard on you. Probation is easier than minimum security prison, which is easier than medimum security prison and such. When on probation little things ccan get you in big trouble. So a honest mistake can hurt the person on probation harder than you think. Community service sometimes is harder on some folks than prison. In prison not as many folks see you there.

Maybe we'll see her in an orange jumpsuit picking up trash at a rest stop on our way to Disney World. :earsboy: :earsboy:

I could care less what happens one way or the other.

I do wonder though..... she is accused of profiting by $20,000.... so how much did the goverment spend to convict her and would they have gone to this much trouble if I were the accused.

Even is she is guilty, I feel that she was used as a scapegoat to be made an example of! I definitely don't wish jail time on her...but she should have some type of massive fine and a penalty(probation)!

No prison. I prefer that we keep the violent offenders, the sexual predators and the drug traffickers off the streets. A fine and court costs would be adequate. I do not even see a reason to put the lady on probation, although I am sure some type of supervision is required.
