Do you wish DVC would switch to "everything washed" bedding?

Do you want DVC to switch to "everything washed" bedding?

  • Yes, I prefer the all-white, "everything washed" bedding

  • No, I liked the themed bedspreads even if they aren't washed between guests

Wait ... the bedspreads aren't changed? So if someone does something nasty on them ... the next guest gets to wallow in that nastiness?

Yep, I am afraid that is true. And as said earlier, we probably will not die or even get sick for "touching" the nasty stuff, still "yuk" .

Are you kidding? Worrying about bedspreads and blankets?? There are germs everywhere - that's why we have immune systems (at least those who don't kill them with anti bacterial wash/spray everywhere). Unless there's an obvious stain (spilled food/drink, or whatever), I can't imagine having a problem with it.

You might as well ask "so which would you rather have, higher maintenance fees for every-day washed bedspreads, or leave things as they are?"

A very large portion of our dues go to housekeeping. One reason we get "a deal" with DVC is that we do not pay the same for *full* housekeeping as you'd get in a hotel.

I say leave the bedding as it is.

That's what I was wondering. Don't forget the extra cost will be paid by members, not Disney.

I don't know about the WDW resorts, but when we were at The Grand Californian, they were removing bedspreads from the rooms when they serviced them. I saw several in the housekeeping carts when I left my room each day.

I stayed at the GC for a night in June, you could definitely tell it was a much more upscale hotel. They use the nice sheets that Hilton does. For almost $400 rack rate in a standard room, they should do more.

mississippian are they selling the contemporary resort yet I see it in you signature?

I never knew about this!

That is absolutely disgusting.

Guess I will be taking my own sheets, blankets and cheap pillows with me! I'm used to doing it that way from the condos I stay in every summer at the beach.

I don't care if I have an immune system or not. I don't want to sleep under blankets that someone else has slept on before me without them being washed. I don't know what they were doing on that blanket before I got there.

I would like duvets much better, I have spent a lot of time in Europe and theyalways seem cleaner than here in the US.

Thats why our owner's locker has 2 sets of sheets and pillow cases. And the bedspread/ blankets end up in the closet as soon as we get in our room.

Yep, we take off the blankets and bedspreads when we walk in our rooms. That is part of the reason I like not having housekeeping everyday. They always make up the beds with the blankets we don't want. I didn't know I could ask for clean blankets though. It would be nice to not have to be cold just because I refuse to use a dirty blanket.

And I agree, I would rather keep our dues down than have new linens.

While I agree the idea of uncleaned bed linens is yucky, has anyone ever caught anything or died from it? Probably not. :confused3

Probably not anything worse than what you would find on the handle of a shopping cart. (sick toddlers & snot) Sorry, I just needed to be clear about that.

That being said, I have seen that TV show about what you find on surfaces at hotel rooms (with a black light). I can guarantee you I am not touching the top of that bed spread and blanket. It comes off an goes into the corner until after we leave. If I think too much about it I could become phobic about it.

So would I prefer clean or dirty? Gosh, seems like a no-brainer. I'll take the clean every time, thank you very much!

How about head lice? I'd think those blankets would be a prime example of how the little buggers spread.

I wish they'd wash the blankets between guests. I don't worry about the bedspread and figure those are just for looks anyway. LOL

Thanks people for getting me skeeved again....

I was living in my nice BUBBLE that EVERYTHING is CLEAN in my room:headache:

Now with reports of bed bugs again and skeevy blankets.....I will be itching before I put my room key in:lmao:

So when you call down for "clean" blankets and bedspreads, what exactly do you say? I always feel strange when it comes to stuff like that. Do you say, I just checked in, and can you bring up a clean bedspread, as if the one on the bed is dirty, isn't that a little insulting to them? I don't know, kinda feel weird asking for that. But I think I might just do that next trip.

There is a tendency to sleep with bedspreads and blankets eithers a) folded under our arms; or b) pulled up around our faces and mouths.

I do not want my face and mouth touching a piece of cloth that a previous guest has had underneath his armpits. This is above and beyond "germs everywhere."

And by the way, this is all done in my sleep, so its not easy to just say, "I'm not going to allow the bedspread or blanket to get up around my face." If I use them, they will. That's why I usually go to such extreme measures, and why I sleep so poorly if I don't.

I treat the bedspread the same as I would treat the couches and chairs. I will sit on it, but wouldn't sleep or lay my face on them. I do take the bedspread off to sleep but put it back on when I make the bed each morning. My reasoning is that when we come home from the parks with dirty clothes on and are throwing bags and such on the bed I don't want that on my sheets that I sleep on. To answer the question I would rather have lower maintance fees then new duvet covers. Yes the ick factor is there and I'm a total germaphobe, BUT let's be real here, more in the villas then just the bedspreads are dirty. We all sit on the couches don't we? The same things that happen on the bedspreads could and probably do happen on the couches.

I didn't vote in the poll because there was no choice for "whatever keeps my dues the lowest". I have an immune system and I have never been bothered by the blanket and bedspread thing. It is common in all hotels. As a PP pointed out, we all sit on the couch. Whatever happened in a bed, probably also happened on the couch. As for head lice, they will live in the pillows for a day or two anyhow - they need to feed fairly often but can live for 24 to 48 hours I believe. So they would also be on the couch if an infested person was in the room before you. Since we are talking DVC, if the blankets bother you, why don't you just toss it in the washing machine? The bedspread might be a bit much for a regular washer but the blankets should go just fine one at a time. No more work than carrying your own bedding or bothering housekeeping.

I noticed with the BC hotel side remodel they've switched to a white duvet, personally I don't care for it and preferred the old style themed bedspreads. I do like duvets in general at other chain hotels but for some reason I just don't want my Disney digs to look like "hotel anywhere USA". The BC rooms look totally generic to me now and hold no appeal whatsoever. I don't know why they couldn't come up with themed duvet covers but obviously they chose not to. I look for this to be the trend as the hotels undergo their individual rehab schedules.

Who sleeps under the bedspreads? I was always taught that they were decorative and should be folded back or removed from the bed at night. They are sort of like removable upholstery, just washed occasionally. In that case they are no dirtier than the chairs and sofas.

I posted on another thread that I had sent a copy to DVC of a letter Marriott sent to its timeshare owners, stating that they(Marriott) were going to institute a policy of going above and beyond, and then stated what that meant, including changing all linens, blankets and bedspreads, etc. after every guest checked out. This came after that TV show that showed all the icky stuff that went on. Anyway, I received a firmly stated return letter about 3 weeks later that said they ALREADY do this, so there was no need to send a letter to DVC members saying they were going to START doing this...I think they missed the point of my letter...;)

Assuming I don't have my own bedding, I take the bedspread off the bed. But I have to leave the blanket on. I need some weight to sleep. And my body touches the blanket during the night. The sheet comes loose from between me and the blanket and I find I wake up with the blanket up in my face, which is gross.
