Do you wear your wedding rings on vacation?

What do you do with your rings on vacation?

  • My rings go everywhere I do, no matter what.

  • My rings go on vacation with me, but I'll take them off to keep them safe on occasion.

  • My rings stay home when I go on vacation. I send them a postcard.

  • My nice rings stay home and I wear a less valuable ring instead.

I actually wear my rings more on vacation than at home. When I'm away I don't take the rings off to sleep or shower because I'm afraid of forgetting them in the hotel room.

I work in a doctors office and never wear them to work. I wash my hands all day long and I'm just not comfortable wearing them to work. When I go out fancy or on vacation I wear them. The funny thing is I remember how bad I wanted an engagement ring and now I hardly wear it.

My DH wore his at our wedding, and for about a day on our honeymoon and couldn't stand it. I don't think it has been on ever since.:rotfl:

I don't wear my egangement ring or anniversary band when traveling. I started leaving them at home when DH and I went to Germany without the kids when the they were 1 and 5. I purposely left them at home, because I wanted my kids to have them in case something happened to me. (Paranoid, I know) Now, I always leave all my valuable jewelry at home when I travel...not that they are worth alot, money wise...but I would just be devastated if I lost them or they were stolen. I would really like to have a nice CZ set to wear when I travel. DH never wears his wedding band. He works on heavy machinery, and it is too risky.

I take mine off at night and when I go in the water, but they do come on vacation with me. DH lost his wedding band 2 days after we were married while snorkeling!! I remember him lifting up his hand and waving to me in the water....and I didn't see his ring on his finger....so I then asked him if he left his wedding band in the safe in the room like I had....ummmm...no....so he looks down at his hand and realizes it is missing....somewhere in the bottom of the Caribbean!

I never take off my wedding band but I take off my engagement ring at night, when I'm washing dishes, doing yardwork, etc. and I take it off if I'm going swimming because I worry about my finger "shrinking" and it falling off. Last year we went on a cruise and in port I left my e-ring in the cabin safe. I found if you wear a lot of jewelry the street vendors hassle you more. I don't take it off for Disney or anything like that. I'm not worried about it on rides. God forbid something did happen, it's insured, so I could get it replaced if I had to (not that I want to!!).

On vacation, I wear them unless I am swimming, getting a shower or sleeping. At home I only wear them when I go out they tend to get caught on things.

Yup! My x-DH's is somewhere in the bottom of the Pacific. Lost on Day 4 of our honeymoon in CA.
Funny how often that happens! We looked for it for over an hour!

DH & I both wear ours.

He does take his off at night.

Here is my funny or not so funny story about his ring:

We were in WDW in 2002 with our then 15 mo old dd. He took his ring off at night per usual & put it next to the bed on the night stand.

The next am he put it on but then took it off to sun screen him as it was August & he didn't want his then just starting to bald head (now even further wtih 3 kids & a nagging wife for almost 7 years) to burn. So he put it on the unmade bed.

We left for AK via a bus (we were at the Poly) & as we were almost there he realized he did not have his ring.

Um..OK there are 5 diamonds, good quality ones in it totally a carat so it wasn't just some plain gold band.

We hopped back on the bus but the bus driver told us he had another route to do & he wasn't going back to the Poly. But he said he could take us to the TTC so he did.

I got off, dh ran back while I walked quickly pushing the stroller.

Now on any other day, housekeeping sucked big time & didn't make up our room on a few of those days until we got back & had a napping baby so there were a few days that he didn't have anything done.

But no, not that day. He walked in & saw the beds were made. But he looked at the nightstand & found his ring there....PHEW!!!!!

I now ask him if he has it any time we go anywhere before we leave the room & I have to see it on his hand.

I have two sets of rings. One set is the more valuable with diamonds all over them. Those are the original rings DH gave me. After we got married the engagement ring tended to get caught on everything and one of the diamonds started spinning in its setting because it got loose. After that we went out and bought me just a plain gold wedding band. I wear that all the time at home and on most vacations. The only time I wear the nice set is when DH and I go somewhere nice whether it is out to dinner or on an adult vacation somewhere. I never wear the good stuff to WDW.

I always keep mine on. It isn't that flashy, and I'm not sentimentally attached to anything material. We just went on a cruise with friends. The woman we travelled with always left her rings in the room safe when we went ashore. I never even thought about it until she mentioned it.

I was talking to a friend today at lunch and she mentioned that she doesn't wear her diamond engagement ring or her anniversary band on vacation. She's afraid something will happen to them. I've always worn my engagement ring and never thought about not wearing it. It's been on about 50 different roller coasters, in several lakes and rivers, and everywhere I've been since it went on my finger 7 years ago, including the UK and Paris. It's not a fancy ring, and not very valuable money wise (we were poor college kids when we got engaged), but it has sentimental value. So I'm curious if other people wear theirs everywhere, or if I should be leaving it at home. :) My friend even has a plain band she wears when she leaves hers. (Now, if I were going to a place where I might get mugged for a $200 ring, I might leave it home, but that's another story altogether!)

I have an engagement ring that fits into a diamond insert. The engagement ring got caught on the metal drawer drive-up window thingy at the bank so one of the prongs got bent a tiny bit out of place. So now my round cut diamond can move in the setting. This happened years ago and I never got it fixed. One day, I will have it re-appraised and when they do an appraisal, they can fix the prongs and I can wear it again.

Even still, I wouldn't bring my rings along on a vacation. They are too valuable and stuff happens. And at this stage of my life I don't want to have to replace them.

The last time I flew Continental, there was a couple sitting behind me and the woman lost the diamond out of her setting. I felt so so bad for her. She was really upset and crying. Everyone on the plane was looking for her stone, but she didn't know exactly where it popped out. So she could have lost it in the terminal. :sad1:

I had one gf who cracked her diamond. She hit it in just the right way on a hard surface and damaged the stone. :sad2:

I had another gf who had a ring situation similar to mine, where the prong was not on correctly. She got up in the middle of the night to use the toilet and when she went to flush she saw her diamond fall out of the setting and into the bowl. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Luckily she found the stone.

My DH actually left his ring on a night stand on the Disney Wonder. He actually got it back. Disney overnight shipped it back to him. That's why I love Disney.

The only time my rings leave my finger is when I'm making meatballs.

Ciao Mickey-it shouldn't be expensive at all to have your ring fixed. I shut my hand in the door and my diamond went flying. The setting on my ring was smashed. The local jeweler fixed it for $12 and it looks as good as the day it was first put on my finger. Strangely, the door incident happened right before our WDW vacation last year, and I was worried it wouldn't be repaired before our vacation, but they got it back to me the day before we left.

I wear mine on vacation. But I do take mine off for work. I have a raised diamond solitaire on my wedding band, and it could scratch one of my patients. Many years ago this happened.

My hubby never really wears his either, though he did wear it on our WDW vacation. It irratates his finger, and even if it didn't, he would not wear it at work anyway. (he's a chef)

When I was a waitress, I'd wear my rings on a necklace. They were brand new, and I was getting all sorts of food and gunk in them, and worried that something would happen it it.

Now, I usually only take mine off if I'm cooking something messy. I will take them off at night sometimes, and put them on my nightstand. My engagement ring is a tad too big, and them my hands get cold, it spins around my finger and annoys me. I don't worry about it falling off, my wedding band fits great, and I wear that one on the outside. :)

DH and I have matching gold bands. I didn't want an engagement ring at all. I do have a diamond anniversary band that I wear w/my wedding band.

First time we went to Mexico, we decided to leave the rings at home so we wouldn't worry about them (even though the're "just" gold they're designer and pretty pricey). We felt naked without them so we got matching silver bands. A few years ago we got matching gold & silver handcrafted rings in Georgetown, CO. We alternate which rings we wear depending on what accessories I'm wearing that day :rotfl: .

On most vacations we take our silver rings and I take silver earrings. On business trips I do take the gold rings.

I have a hard time getting mine off.... so the pretty much stay on. :) My DH has a plain gold band to wear at work and then his real one with diamonds for outside of work. He does wear them when he is out, if he is at home he takes them off.

It depends on where we are vacationing. I don't wear them if I am not entirely comfortable with the surroundings. I only take them with me if there is a safe to store them. I have no problem wearing them at WDW.

I bring mine on vacation. I do not wear them everyday though, or at night, because I developed some kind of allergy to my rings. I guess its not unusual and can happen anytime. If I wear them every day and night, I get a red itchy rash under the rings. So now I make sure to give my fingers at least nighttime to "breathe".:confused3

See if you're not leaving soap under your rings when washing your hands. That's what happened to me for a bit and I developed a red, itchy rash under my ring (not a wedding ring - I'm not married). When I started being sure I was getting the soap out from under the ring, the rash went away.

And, as for wearing diamonds to Disney, y'all better get the setting checked to make sure it is secure before you go, as my mother lost her diamond at Disney once (fell out we think on Thunder Mountain) many years ago. She had to get a new diamond for her ring after that trip - definitely not cheap to do! Last time I was at Disney, whenever I went on wilder rides, I turned my diamond ring to the inside of my palm and kept my palm closed, just in case.

My engagement ring, wedding band, and anniversary band NEVER leave my finger.....unless I'm making meatloaf, which I only do twice a year. I don't ever think of taking them off.:confused3
