Do you wear your engagement/wedding ring(s) on vacations?

I read this question on another travel board, and I was surprised at the number of people who refuse to wear their engagement ring and/or wedding ring when they travel. It never really occurred to me to do anything else. I always wear mine.

Now I totally get that you shouldn't wear flashy jewelry when you travel, but I had never applied that my engagement/wedding ring.

So when you travel - do you wear your real engagement ring and/or wedding ring? Or do you wear a cheap substitute? Or no rings at all?

I wear mine as long as I won't be swimming too much. I hear some people say pit pockets can steal it but mine is insured and well you'd have to be pretty darn close to get that thing off my finger so I hope I would at least notice before it happened.

My fiance isn't too keen on me wearing them to France on our honeymoon. I haven't decided yet.

Depends on the destination. Most places yes.
But other places we have been warned not to, Cuba (although that was 10 years ago) hiking in Nepal or through Peru.
Many African or South Anerian destinations etc.
But the the US etc I think the risk is the same as here really.

I've never taken mine off in 49ish years, except to clean when sitting at the table to do it, once when they had to be re-sized as I got a tad heavier,,, in my 50's Ahem,,, I meant olderrr. yeah older! Also, once when they were being evaluated for insurance. Albeit, I've had thoughts of going bare :teeth: when we travel again, because of the possibility of robbery... sigh. In which case I'll wear just a plain band.

Not only do I wear my rings on vacation, I never take them off. I'm much more likely to accidentally leave them in a hotel room after removing them to sleep or shower than I am to lose them while out and about.

That being said, there are some vacation destinations where I might consider leaving my rings at home.

My knuckles swell up in the heat/humidity pretty bad. The last time we were at Disney, August 2015, my ring was starting to hurt my finger, but I did not try to take it off. This August may be a different story. If it starts to hurt again, I will take it off. My wife does not really care because I can't wear it at work any way. We both feel it doesn't make us any less married if I wear it or not. We have been married for over 21 years though.

My thin gold band can slip off fairly easily so I likely will leave it at home when we go on vacation because I'll be in the water with grandkids a lot at pools and waterparks. I'd be so upset to lose it although the value of the band is minimal. I rarely wear my engagement ring any more anyway and that would be the ring with the most value, of course.

.
Except to have it cleaned at the jeweler, or when she had surgery, DW hasn't had her engagement ring off her finger in more than 36 years.
It is, however, a modest piece of jewelry. I do remember being on our honeymoon in Hawaii and sharing a bus with a middle aged couple, and she had a diamond bigger than I have ever seen before or since. THAT, I might be concerned about because it was so big it was gaudy.

I don't wear my real rings on vacation. I recently picked up a beautiful fake "wedding ring " at the jewelry shop on Main St in MK. It's a Pandora Mickey ring that looks like an antique engagement ring. It's beautiful and cost me around $100. I'll wear it when we go to Punta Cana for our vacation.

I wear mine on vacations.
I don't wear it around the house......I clean too often. I put it in on a ring holder but as soon as I leave the house it goes on.
I forgot to grab it one time as we were rushing out the house to catch a plane to WDW, so had to buy a ring there. Can't go out without one.

Domestic travel, yes, mostly. Never international though. We grabbed very inexpensive plain bands we replace our diamonds with for that.

I never take mine off, but A) it's modest (my engagement ring doubles as my wedding band), and B) we've only traveled domestically.

I don't have an engagement ring but I wear my band if I'm travelling domestically. If I'm going on an international dive trip, I wear a silver band and take it off when diving (fishes love shiny things). My ex DIL bought a set from Sworski that looked exactly like her real set and wore that when travelling international and left her real ones in a safe. I don't wear any other jewelry normally on vacation except a watch and a pair of hoop ear rings. Again, depending on where I'm travelling, the watch will either be a silver/gold disney one or a cheaper leather one. The ear rings are either a silver hoop if international or normally a small gold pair. I tend to take two pairs of earrings when travelling international because I have lost one before and I can't let my ears be without longer than a day or two or they start to grow together. I've been on some islands that are so remote there is no way to buy another set. I just put them in after we get back from diving normally.

No, but not because I'm worried about theft. Generally vacation is summer time and we're eating meals laden with sodium so my hands swell. That leads to them being uncomfortable and me taking them off which leads to the possibility of forgetting/losing them.

To be honest, I only wear my wedding set and anniversary rings when we go out or special occasions. They're pretty heavy and while not flashy by today's standards they're a bit of overkill for a Walmart/Target run. I did get a pretty infinity ring for our 25th. It's light and dainty making it easy to wear 24/7. My jeweler and I had a back and forth about size though. I wanted a 6, he thought I should go 6.5 for possible swelling and we compromised on 6.25. IMO it's a little big but was near perfect on vacation. I didn't have to take it off and didn't have to worry about it slipping off. I'm worried it's going to be too big in the cooler months though.

Yes, I always have. I don't worry about it too much when we travel in the states, but after hearing that a tour bus was robbed in another country when we were on a cruise it makes me think maybe I shouldn't wear them because if we were on a bus that was robbed and they demanded I take my rings off to give them I wouldn't be able to. They don't come off without soap and water. :( Mine aren't flashy so really don't attract attention.

^^^^^Me too!!

I just started wearing mine last year, after 16 years of marriage. This will be my first vacation as a daily ring-wearer, and I was pondering if I was going to bring them or not. They are not flashy (my engagement ring is a gemstone, and was $100 after taxes...), but I know my hands will swell due to heat, humidity, sodium and um..alcohol. But, I am used to them now, so not sure I want to go without...
