Are crocs comfortable? I've never tried them on because I guessed the opposite. If so, I guess I've been missing out for assuming. Can anyone vouch for comfort level?
Yeah, I can say that I find my Crocs/Holey Soles (I own both kind) are very comfortable!!!
I wore orthopedic shoes as a kid...early grade school...because I used to jump off of everything and broke down the arches. I've also had both of my legs/feet in casts...first time was due to broken ankle and fibula and the second was due to a broken tarsal. I also have feet that are wide, spreading out like a duck's webbed foot, while the ankle is relatively narrow so trying to find shoes that fit my feet isn't easy. I can't think of many shoes that I have found to be as comfortable as my Crocs and Holey Soles. They allow my feet to sit more naturally rather than squished in (even if I'm wearing a wide width shoe I feel that way). I have worn them with and without the strap behind the ankle...I prefer without since I can then just slip the shoe off and on, but it's fine with also. I also found that when I wore the Crocs in June at WDW for 6 days that even when I retained water and my ankles swelled I still felt comfortable...actually I didn't even notice the swelling until I got back to the room and noticed a very small (pinhead size) red spot. I realized it was because my ankles were swollen and the shoe, which normally was loose, was now fitting more snuggly and rubbed (similar to a floor burn) in that spot. That is the only time my Crocs didn't feel perfectly comfortable...when my ankles were so swolllen.
As for sweaty feet? I do not find that my feet sweat at all in the Crocs Beach style (with the holes) as long as I am not wearing socks...with the socks I noticed that between my toes did get slightly damp feeling on our Christmas trip when the temps got upward in the 60 plus range. As a matter of fact, I've noticed that my feet have actually become drier...the skin that is and I need to use lotion more often. Now, having said that, I have also noticed other areas of my skin are drier and it could be attributed to my being diagnosed as a diabetic for the last year, so take that into consideration. Now, I do find that my toes get somewhat sweaty when I wear my Holey Soles with socks, but they are the completely closed in style. Addtionally, I only notice the dampness when I take off the shoes and the air hits the toes...feels cool so I know the socks are damp.
The big plus about wearing the Crocs (with holes) in June was that it rained everyday and I walked through some 2 inch puddles...Yes, my feet got wet just like DH and DS, who wore their Nike tennis shoes with socks. The difference was that my feet dried within 10 minutes of getting out of the rain, while their shoes remained soggy for the entire trip...even by wearing 2 pairs alternating days.
This is just my experience with Crocs and Holey Soles, and each person is different. The best thing I could suggest is what my momma always made me do as a kid...try on the shoes to be sure it's a good fit and wear them around before trying to commando in them and be sure you do include a good deal of walking in them to be sure they work for you before you go to the parks.
Hope this helps!
