Do you wear a hat in the parks?

I'm thinking it would be a good idea (for sun protection) but is it too much hassle? If you do wear a hat, I suppose there a number of rides that you would have to hold it or it would fly off your head.

I'm planning to try to keep a hat on my two DDs, but that will be a constant battle. My DH will have the "ever-present" ballcap on his head, no doubt. :rotfl: I can't decide whether I should wear one or not. . .

I sometimes wear a sun visor. :sunny: I'm just not a hat person.

If the sun is very strong we do where our baseball hats to the parks. On our Jan trips we usually do not wear our hats as the heat is not that bad.

we've always worn hats before, but this year we got those floppy bucket hats. I think we are going to like htem because you can fold them up and sit on them when you're on a ride. I never really thought about it until now, but I bet they'd fit in a fanny pack too.

Definitely. That's our approach. The sun is very much an issue for us, even in January! Something that we can just crumble up and shove in a pocket works great.

Everyone usually wears a hat but me. I am not a hat person. When the kids don't wear one I make sure that they have sunscreen on the part in their hair, etc.

fan of the floppy bucket hat here- prevents head sunburn and avoids having sunscreen dripping in your face when you sweat!! I think it keeps me cooler because the sun isn't beating down on you directly!
WOW bicker- great job on your weight loss- that is so hard and I am truly impressed!!

Wear a hat, you bet. Keeps the rain and sun off.
Now, as far as the rides. Get ball hats that are
one size fits all (they have a adjustable band on the
back to adjust to the size of your head).
Well, when you get on a fast ride, just stick hand
in the space between the hat and the adjustable
band on the back of the hat and side it down on
your wrist like a bracelet. Your hands are free to
hold on.

I've worn a hat and not worn a hat. I like my baseball cap for keeping the sun out of my eyes. I normally keep my hair back in the parks, and thread my ponytail or french braid through the hat to help it stay on if a gust of wind tries to remove it. If it is really windy when I leave for the parks, the hat stays in the room. ::MickeyMo :earsgirl: ::MinnieMo

I'm not a hat person, but I picked up a visor with a velcro back at Target (I think it was like $7). It was nice because I have long hair and when it was windy it also helped keep my hair out of my eyes. In the evening when I didn't need it or on a ride when I couldn't wear it, I would open the velcro and hook it to the strap of my messanger bag. My son got a super cute "Here Comes Trouble" Stitch visor and when he took it off, I'd velcro it to the other strap! Hats and visors were definitely a big help on our trip in March. princess:

Wear a visor. I wore one everyday in the parks since I get sunburned very easily and it helped a ton! Its not a hassle on the rides, I just strapped it on tight or sat on it or clipped it around my belt loop when I went on rides w/ big drops. The only rides you'd need to do this on would be the big coasters, even then most have storage things next to wear you sit, like a little net. I'd recommend it :)

I wear a wide brim tennis hat off and on. I bought DH a very light weight baseball cap at a golf sample sale before our trip for $3. I was very cool and he had all the characters sign it--better than having to carry an autograph book for our kids. He'll wear it again next year and have the characters we didn't meet this year sign in a different color so we can keep track of who signed when. It was also a great conversations starter in the lines--people could see who we'd met and they'd strike up a conversation about them. It was a practical and fun ice-breaker!

My visor is velcro-adjustable -- on rides I just strap it around my neck like a necklace. My hat has one of those straps, so I can take advantage of that as well, if I don't want to crush the hat into a pocket. (Of course, I'm a bit older now so I can pull-off that hat-with-a-strap look [at least in my own mind] -- I don't think I'd have been caught dead wearing such an "old man's hat" when I was a younger man.:tilt: )

1) Gotta wear a hat.
2) My hair doesn't protect my head.
3) And I mean the SINGLE hair on my head.
4) It isn't that I went bald.
5) My forehead just increased to the back of my neck.

PS -
I can still remember when I was younger.
I had more hair on my head than in my earts.

I am with Rusty...Gotta wear a hat to protect the baldness.

Not much worse than a sunburned head!

Hats are a good way to keep the sun off heads not accustomed to the Florida sun. I don't wear them anywhere else, but at WDW, fashion be dagged, I'm wearing a hat. I do lose at least one every trip though by forgetting to remove it before RNR takes off, or the final plunge on Splash Mountain, or... well, just hold on to the hat or sit on it, or like me, hat purchases will make a major dent in your wallet!

I'm a baseball cap wearer too. I have a full head of hair, but it's all fine hair so I always get a sunburn on the part and near my forehead

And thanks to qtwns for the autograph suggestion! I have a white DLCalifornia hat that I bought at a Disney discount store that would work perfectly! It's my favorite hat and I'm sure I'll love it even more with some autographs

Given the family history of skin cancer and my aversion to squinting (even with sunglasses) I try to wear a visor. DS is 13 and fashion has started to come into play, but I tell him he needs to wear a hat, if nothing more than a baseball cap...when he was younger he would wear the bucket hats that provide more protection for his ears and neck. (I worry more since his biological father had malignant carcinoma on an ear resulting in loss of the entire ear and now DS has a mole on his ear we are watching very closely). DH just had a spot removed by the dermatologist so he's freaked out about the sun. On past trips he ended up just buying a new hat, which like another person said, can cost a fortune. This year wisdom prevails and he found a nice straw hat at Walmart with a wide brim (panama style) for $7...told him it would allow more airflow than the ones he usually buys at the parks and if it gets icky then we can toss it on the last day. But, given our forecast for June 1 - 6...don't think we're gonna need hats, but ponchos...

Oh I definitely wear a hat. Too much sun is not a good thing. On rides where I have to take it it off, I usually run my fanny pack through the hole in the back and it stays safe :)
