Do you wear a hat in the parks?

Dh and I tend to wear baseball caps alot during the day time in WDW. It helps to keep the sun off our face. Downside, some rides it needs to be removed or you might lose it and for me that results in nasty hat hair. Haha.
But overall, during the day we tend to wear hats. At night, we usually dont.
:)

Any kind - Visor, Baseball Cap, Bucket - anything. They really help keep you cool. We've worn all kinds and all of them work, and its much better with one than without. I must saay though, that I think you need a hat AND sunscreen. Especially if you're fair like me and burn by just the thought of sun, :sunny:

I wear a hat with at least a 3" brim all around. That plus lots of sunscreen. Gotta protect my neck where the surgeon cut out all that melanoma skin cancer. I tell strangers my neck looks like this from fighting pirates.

Definitely. That's our approach. The sun is very much an issue for us, even in January! Something that we can just crumble up and shove in a pocket works great.
That's our strategy too. Nice to have a wide brim, also nice to stow it for rides. Makes a big difference when it is hot, and one is not used to the sun.

I always wear a hat. I have a wide-brimmed floppy kind that has an adjustable neck cord. I love the cord, because I usually just let it hang off my neck when I am not using it. It sure is easier to keep up with!

since i am blessed to have obtained my fathers gene that passed on his baldness to me i have to wear a hat, especially in that blistering july sun. one day last trip i decided to not wear a hat. well that was my first mistake. add to that forgetting to put sunscreen on the top of my head by the time noon rolled around i had to buy a new hat due to the beginnings of a sunburn on the top of my head. never again will i leave my hotel and go to the parks without a hat.

my wife said i forgot my hat on purpose so i had an excuse to buy a new disney baseball cap. :earboy2:

Part of my WDW uniform is my white bucket hat with the Disney logo embroidered on it. I always take it with my to WDW and I wear it.

I never wear a hat in the parks. Although I have tried to get DS8 to wear one he usually takes it off after the first ride... LOL!! DH usually wears a hat around home but never at WDW.

We're a get to the park really early kid of family. Since I have long hair, I usually just pull it back and wear a baseball hat. Never had a problem on rides, just put it on my arm like someone else suggested. I always wear sunglasses, too. With the hat and sunglasses, its harder to tell I didn't do my hair or put on make up. Wouldn't want to scare the other guests.

Oh - last trip, my brother (30) went with us. He is a huge NC State fan. Had a baseball hat he had had forever. Anyway, we were at IOA and he was on Jurassic Park. Not sure what he was thinking, but when the got to the top of the big drop, off flew the hat. In the picture they take on the ride, everyone else is looking down, yelling, screaming, etc. Not my brother, he is turned around reaching back trying to grab the hat in midair.

Wear a hat, you bet. Keeps the rain and sun off.
Now, as far as the rides. Get ball hats that are
one size fits all (they have a adjustable band on the
back to adjust to the size of your head).
Well, when you get on a fast ride, just stick hand
in the space between the hat and the adjustable
band on the back of the hat and side it down on
your wrist like a bracelet. Your hands are free to
hold on.

Thank you for that tip!

I never wore hats, until my dermatologist removed a precancerous spot on my nose. I swear the needles seemed to be at least a foot long!!!! Ever since I always wear a hat at WDW (as well as at home when I do yard work). Save your skin - wear a hat!

I actually posted earlier and I wore a visor. I totally forgot about this until someone else mentioned it...I DID get a sunburn in the part of my hair and on the very top of my forehead! Maybe a floppy bucket hat that could be folded and put in the bag during rides or at night would be better!

Yes, I always wear hats. Baseball caps have the adjustable strap that can function like a bracelet, as a previous poster mentioned. I also do the bucket hats that you can just scrunch up in a bag or something. Your skin is worth it!

I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but I wear a bucket type hat that I bought at WDW that has space to put some pins on it. I can't stand the pin lanyards - they drive my neck CRAZY, but the bucket hat is great. I keeps the sun off my ears as well as my head.

When I ride, I just stick my hat under my leg or in a netted storage area if the ride has one. I also have tucked it under the waistband of my fanny pack or have even tucked it into the waistband of my pants (just enough to secure it).

I have never had a problem with my hat on any ride.

Also, the disney ebay site has a bucket hat for only $5.00 that has 'walt disney world" on it. Here's a link.... (actually, they have some really great "disney hats" for about $2.00)

(it's a great hat, isn't it?)

I bought hats for DH, my 3 children & I at Disneydeals.com. I paid $20.00 for all 5 of them, including shipping. They had some really cute ones. :)

I always wear a baseball cap - whether at Disney or not. When you go on rides, baseball caps can easily clip around a belt loop for safe keeping (assuming it's not a fitted cap).

I found a really good Columbia hat before our last trip that is very lightweight, has an adjustable strap and squishes down to fit in my fanny pack - it was great! The strap allowed me to just wear it on my back sometimes (not on rides but walking in the shade). My kids had bucket hats and I sewed some elastic on them so they wouldn't blow off on the boat ride across. It saved them burned hair parts and noses! I don't wear hats a lot but I did there!! :sunny:

I wear one just because I have a bald spot coming in and it is the only way that I can keep it from getting burned. I hate wearing caps but it is a necessary evil, I guess.

19 day dance :cool1:  :cheer2:  :cool1:

I don't wear hats. (Well I do but not to the parks.) Anyways... I bring a visor along (bought it in Disney World in 2002). It keeps my hair from flying in my face and sometimes the sun out of my eyes. The best part is... when you're on one of the rides where it "might fall off," you just take it off and put it around your neck. Your head it too big for it to fall off. You don't lose it!
