Do you 'watch what you eat' at WDW?

Just wondering how many people try to stick to a sensible eating routine? The menus all look so wonderful and desserts so delicious that I'm afraid it would be easy to actually gain weight.

When I went in '04 my mom wore a pedometer and we walked more than 14 miles in 6 days. I'm sure many of you can walk more but we had a toddler in tow and this time I'll have a 6yo and twin 2 yo's so I can't imagine I'd walk more than I did in 04.

Has anyone gained weight while there?:headache:

I think you have to watch what you eat else you make a mess.

Yep I'm very careful about looking at my food before I eat it at WDW. :rolleyes1

When I'm on vacation I'm on vacation. I don't worry about work, I don't worry about cleaning the house and I don't worry about what I'm eating. I'm on vacation and to me vacation and diet don't mix.

In the past I usually lost a few pounds. But over the last couple years I usually gain a couple of pounds. We have been to WDW over a dozen time and don't hit the parks commando style anymore. Plus, when I hit 40 it takes more exercise to lose and less food to gain. We have never been huge over eaters. But we don't really watch what we eat at WDW either. (I know it can makes a mess! :) )

For me it is vacation and I am going to eat whatever I want. If that includes bread pudding with vanilla sauce for lunch or a huge rice krispy mickey head for lunch so be it! :thumbsup2

no...we walk to much to worry.
However, I have seen some birds watch my food and then fly away with it.:rotfl2: I'm so funny.

Not only do I watch the food, I photograph it too! :rotfl:

We had a CM on our last trip explain that food in Disney World doesn't have calories. :thumbsup2 It is all part of the magic. Personally, that's good enough for me. :cool1:

In all seriousness, I don't worry about it in Disney. Five or ten days' indulgence isn't going to make or break an otherwise healthy lifestyle, and we do so much more walking at Disney that I figure it probably evens out in the end. For my upcoming trip I figure I'm going to come out ahead, because I'm "training" for all that walking, since work and a broken toe kept me less active than usual this past winter.

I go with the intent of eating what I want. Generally I don't eat cookies, Ice cream or chips between meals at home and feel even less like it in the parks. If the weather is cool I eat less healthy. If the weather is warm or hot I tend to crave salads and lots of cold fruit/fruit salads and less fatty items.

I never watch what I eat on vacation, that would spoil the fun! That being said, last year dh and I went on the DDP for 8 days and didn't say no to anything- he gained 10 lbs and I gained 5. Oh well, we just ate salads and grilled chicken at home for a while to balance it out.

If you break cookies, it causes all of the calories to leak out of them before you eat them. Just thought I'd share that tip. :rolleyes1

We do DL commando style -- and park hop between MK, DCA and DTD constantly. I wore a pedometer, and one day we walked 17 miles (and our feet hurt really bad the next day). I'm wondering how it will compare at WDW, since a lot of travel is by bus and boat, but I'm thinking we will still be walking miles and miles anyway. We eat what we like on vacation, drink a ton of water, walk a LOT, and usually maintain or lose a little.

.

HA! I thought it was just me that had discovered that! I also found out that food that falls off the plate onto the table is considered calorie free as well! Kind of a 3 second rule of dieting.

We do try... a bit. ;) I run in the mornings and prepare ground flax & fruit for breakfast. We will usually have one breakfast ADR per 10 day trip (gotta have the tonga toast.) At the waterparks we will usually split a bag of mini donuts. At meal time I usually stick to salmon (I have never had bad salmon at WDW, FWIW.) I do like steak, so I will have one or two during our trip. I don't eat dessert with CS meals, and usually share my TS dessert. The daily snack is my get out of jail free card... so I will use it for schoolbread or dole whips.

The most important thing is to remember to drink enough water. Seems like a no brainer, but lots of folks forget!

:)

I have went two years in a row now and both times lost weight at WDW :cool1: . This year I did have a little problem AFTER we came home from WDW still eating like I was on vacation. But I agree you walk a lot at WDW (we did about 12 miles a day) so I think that is why. And I am a water girl too, love the water don't forget to drink it. And remember you are on vacation so don't think about it. :goodvibes

I'm sure the water makes a difference for me too. At home I'm a Mt Dew addict, which is no where to be found in the World, and I don't drink other sodas, especially when it is hot. Substituting water or unsweet tea for my usual soda habit helps balance the scales a bit.

:cool1:

Ditto me too!!! Everytime I go to Disney I lose weight. I truly believe it is all the walking and standing around for 9-10 hrs in the nice sunny weather. I like most people feel that diet and WDW don't mix. Kinda like water and oil.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: There is food in disney I crave for all year until I can get them again. I don't deprive myself or my DH or kids of anything. Of course within reason. Christmas and Easter is the only time my kids eat chocolate before breakfast. WDW is the only place my kids can too.:yay: :yay: :yay:

Im planning on yogurt parfaits for brkfst
have lunch ARs where I'll get salads

and then after that? No then I stop watching what I eat and start watching the drinks! lol

I have a sensitive stomach so yes I watch what I eat. I eat a low fat diet at home so if I went to WDW and ate a ton of fried foods and cream based products (ice cream, sauces) I would feel terrible. I don't limit my food I just choose wisely and always include a salad with dressing on the side. And drink my water. I don't know if I will lose weight or not this time? I doubt it since I eat very healthy now and exercise everyday (at least 2 miles on the treadmill at a jog and weights). I'm sure I will lose it fast though. My goal this year is to wear my bikini and look great at TL. I have 3 pounds to go until I am at pre-marriage weight (123). Not bad for 8 years and 2 kiddos.

I watch it pile on the fork and into my mouth! :teeth:

Then I watch my DH do the same :teeth:

Seriously, I do too much of this ::banana: to worry about this :drinking1 and this popcorn::

Oh, when I'm at WDW, its my one time to let loose.
I eat whatever I want when I'm there.
And, I do mean whatever.
I sure wouldn't do it at home and so that is what adds to the *magic* of Disney.
:lmao:
Also, you really do walk a lot so I wouldn't worry about gaining weight.
