Do you 'watch what you eat' at WDW?

We were on the DDP for 8 days, so I went worrying about gaining weight.
With that said, I still decided to eat whatever I wanted without stuffing myself sick. I actually lost a few pounds, even eating 2 desserts a day (or partial, anyway). I didn't drink soda, which I think really puts on the lbs. Also, only one adult beverage a day, usually wine. A few days I did have a pina colada, which calorie wise are lethal.
We walked SO much that it all balanced out!:thumbsup2

In the past, I ate whatever I wanted, because we were on vacation. Too bad for me, I was just diagnosed with acid reflux, and I can't eat the things that I love.:sad2: So yes, this year, even on the DP, I will be watching what I eat (otherwise I'll pay for it all day long!)

We were there 5 days on DP last month. I did not watch what I ate at all. I was releived to see I only gained 4 lbs. when I got home. I watched what I ate when I returned home and lost the 4 lbs. in one week. So for me it was worth it!!!

...about the vast majority of you saying you didn't really gain and may have even lost weight while on the DDP. I'm in the midst of a major meltdown...of the 'pounds' variety. I've lost over 30 pounds since mid Jan. and still have quite a few more to lose. I'm worried about loosing ground...and motivation, but hopefully I'll be the same as most of you and it won't be an issue. :thumbsup2

I'm a bit embarrassed  on our first Disney holiday gained 14lb...yes, 14lb. I walked loads but over compensated with all the American buffet meals and large portions. The breakfasts were also very different to what we normally eat and just had to try everything!!!. I have such a sweet tooth and to have donuts and french pastries for breakfast ...well, i just couldn't resist.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 .

I'm on a diet now and I've lost 27 pounds since Jan. 1 and am trying to lose at least 15-25 more, but I plan on eating like a little piggy when I get there. I'll deal with any weight gained when I get home. I've actually dreamed about the meals in the restaurants! LOL

I don't know if I'll actually be able to eat whatever I want though because the other day I ate some junk and my stomach hurt all day. I'll try my best though!

I don't necessarily "watch" what I eat in the sense of omitting certain foods. I eat a clean diet all year long, and when I'm on vacation anywhere, I like to splurge a bit.

I will say, however, that I find myself craving "healthy" foods quite often while in the theme parks of Orlando. I eat a lot of fruit and veggies at home, and I can definitely tell a difference if I've gone more than 24 hours without a healthy dose of them. While my brain may be telling me to get that half-pound burger for dinner after a fried chicken lunch, my body tells me I need a spinach salad with olive oil and vinegar :)

I call it my feeling of being "green around the gills," and I'll hunt out some fresh fruit or even a big plate of brocolli.

No way! We eat anything and everything we want on vacations. :goodvibes I eat healthy (mostly) the rest of the year. I have never gained weight at Disney though, even doing that old Gold plan with 3 TS meals a day. We do commando the parks every day, maybe that makes a difference. We are not sit by the pool type people at Disney. In fact, last trip we spent all of 1 hour in the BWV pool and that was only because it was 95 degrees that day and we did AK from 8AM-4PM. Is it me, or is that park always hotter than all the others?? Maybe all the plants make it more steamy. :goodvibes

:goodvibes No, we indulge on vacation & enjoy what we want. During vacation, I get to enjoy a real breakfast, not cereal on the run. I do order the entree salad at some restaurants(Sci Fi, Plaza) but that's because I enjoy them. Of course, I follow it up with dessert!

For meals, I just eat what I want. I *do* try not to eat a lot of extras, though. If my family wants ice cream, I sometimes get just a juice bar, but if I really wanted a Mickey head ice cream, I'd get it. LOL! I tell myself that all the walking counters the food.

I used to go "hog wild" so to speak, but I've found that I'll gain 5-10 lbs in a week or two, which usually discourages me since I'm an emotional eater, leading me to misbehave at home, too.

Now, I try to be "reasonable". I drink lots of water and tea (hot/unsweet) or bring crystal light packets for bottled water, and get 5 fruits and veggies a day, but I still also eat whatever I really want. My boyfriend and I share meals often, too, to save money and calories, which helps, but we still get to eat whatever we want. I figure if crab cakes and fries has 900 calories, if we eat half each, it's only 450. Last trip, I only gained 2 lbs. which was better than before.

I'm a bit embarrassed  on our first Disney holiday gained 14lb...yes, 14lb. .

Ha ha..me too! My last trip, I gained 14 pounds in 6 days on the dining plan. I should add that I had lost 30 pounds on a low carb diet right before my trip, and I gain very quickly coming off low carbing.

I must admit that I will eat whatever I want on our upcoming trip, but my tastes have changed quite a bit to where I would naturally choose a veggie option over a burger and fries, so hopefully that will help. :confused3

I am insulin resistant and on Metformin, so YES, I watch what I eat. I don't skip anything I REALLY want, but I'll compensate in other ways. For example, I'll substitute veggies for potatoes or rice with dinner, but I will have a taste or two of dessert. I try not to eat fried stuff, skip the bread, make sure I get my water, dairy, fruits and veggies. DH is super sensitive to high fructose corn syrup, so he has to watch too.

If I don't, my touring plans would consist more of bathroom hopping than park hopping. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

With the way we power walk, we don't worry about what we eat, especially since it's vacation. :)

Nope. I'm on vacation and giving any thought to what I eat (except, of course, is it TASTY) is not part of the program.

Plus, I'm walking almost constantly from dawn to late at night ... I'm sure the extra exercise is "cushioning" the higher intake! :thumbsup2

Besides, thanks to Disney magic, there are NO calories in ANY of the food at DisneyWorld*.

*Unfortunately, this effect is canceled the moment you leave Disney property! All of the calories that you've skipped suddenly catch up with you.... :lmao:

Yes, I watch it as it gets stabbed onto the fork and put into my mouth!! LOL

And I don't believe I gained anything on our honeymoon, even though I ate and ate and ate... must have been all the activity. LOL

the only thing i watch is the food on my plate going in my mouth... your on vacation; its time to have a good time and eat what you want and worry about the extra lbs when you get home... remember your constantly walking so sometimes its not that bad!!! :)

My Wife and I try to watch what we eat and still have a great time in the world. We have our favorites that we eat on every trip ( Rice Creme, French Toast Loaf etc. ) We split most of our dinners because you get so much food. We bring cereal with us to eat in our room before we take off in the morning. I would have to say you can go to WDW and eat whatever you want, you just have to be smart about how much and when you eat it. My Wife lost 95lb about 7 years ago and has kept it off even with all our trips to WDW.

I'm happy to report that during our 2006 trip with the free dining plan, I lost 3 lbs., and it wasn't due to watching what I ate. I ate loads, but all of the walking (and sweating) evened things out. :thumbsup2

I watch what I eat everywhere. That doesn't mean I won't splurge some - I do, but I also will walk extra to work it off. I do try to ask for meats not to be cooked much in butter, that can add a lot of extra unneeded calories and fat.
