Do you use points to stay weekends?

To help ease the weekend burden, one year we stay for a weekend the next year we stay at another hotel. This way we only move once for two vacations.

We only have 200 points and always need a 2 bedroom, so we have never stayed more than 5 nights, no weekends. I would love to stay longer, but I just can't justify the extra points. I would rather have more trips for 5 nights than fewer longer trips. Also, we drive from MD and sometimes I've made reservations in another on property hotel for Sat. night of arrival, that way we can enjoy all of Sunday (we do check out and check in to DVC early in the day and head to a park).

I think if we wanted a longer stay, we would switch for the weekend to save the points.

It's true that 5 nights is not long, but with 4 kids, the $ adds up fast with tickets and food and 5 nights are better than nothing!

Now that we just went in July and December, I will try not to plan anything until summer of 2005 and then maybe we will have a longer stay (maybe going to Universal during the weekend). But with 4 kids (9, 12, 14 and 16), it's hard to find time for longer vacations even in the summer. Maybe in 10 years when it's just DH and I ::yes::

Yep! we always go for a week or more. I look at the total points needed for the stay and don't worry about each days worth.

No. But I make 10-11 trips per year, most of them short, and I would run out of points pretty quickly if I used them for weekends. It's not difficult for me to move. It might be much more of a pain for a family to pack up and do that.

We just spent 11 nights at VWL starting 1/1 and departing 1/12. Two Fri and Sat during that stay. Average out the points over the entire trip and forget about the higher points on the weekends.

Last summer we stayed in four resorts, two nights at CS (different room each night, decided to come in one night early, then two nights early), three nights at Doubletree Guest Suites (Hilton Honors deal), three nights at AKL Concierge (to do the Sunrise Safari for my birthday), then 6 nights at BCV on points. Never again will I waste so much time moving around and being homeless.

We might get a regular resort room for the first night if we arrive late, then check into DVC the next morning early. If we're lucky we get a room right away. Not this time, though. Checked in at 8AM, room wasn't ready until 4PM. Spent the afternoon at the WL pool and we were lucky it was warm enough to swim. We did spent NYE night at the Dolphin and were able to party at Disney Studios for a wonderful evening.
