What do you heat your house with? What is everyone paying for heating fuel?

Back in August my oil company made me decide on how much oil I was going to use. Based on last years figure I rounded up to 1000 gallons, I had two choices pay for it all at once at $1.05 a gallon or the payment plan over 6 months at $1.13. I did the payment plan, did not want to give them all the money in one shot. What if I didn't use all the oil, would they have given me back my money. I doubt it.

Well I used up all the oil I thought I would need. I never imagined we would have one of the coldest winters this season. For the longest time it didn't seem like we were ever going to get out the freeze. Winter came so fast for us. Hardly felt like we had fall at all, straight into winter.

Well I got my oil delivery two weeks ago and the price went up to $1.43 a gallon. A bit of a shock. Then yesterday I got another delivery and the price is now at $1.72. So now I am not very happy. I get a $.06 discount if I pay within 10 days, which I do. I guess a little bit of a saving then none.

I am so mad that my oil company forced my to decide how much oil that I thought I was going to use that now I am paying more for oil than gasoline for my car.

I can only pray that spring is around the corner or I am going to be freezing inside my house to keep my oil usage down.

Are prices that high out there?

:(

We heat with natural gas. Last month we used 1.5 times more natural gas than in January 2002. The average temperature in 2002 was 35 degrees. The average in June 2003 was 22 degrees.

FYI - Our natural gas bill (not budget) for last month was $150 which is the most that we've ever paid for heating our home.

We use natural gas. We're on a balanced billing schedule and pay $78 a month.

We use propane , I use to have the same company for years and their offer in the beginning was the more you use , the cheaper it is, we go through 200 gallons every 6 weeks in the winter, we usually get 5-6 fill ups and then another 3 during the year so give or take is about 1800 gallons we use a year, 1200 of them alone in the winter. Make a long story short, they were charging me after almost 5 years being their customer, the same price someone else using 200 gallons in 6 months was using, so where was my break? they kept rising the price so I looked for another company, this one locked me at .85 a gallon until August of this year and depending on how much I use , in August they will lock me up again for another year, if I don't like the deal I will get someone else. So to answer your question we pay around $170 every six weeks for heat in the winter, the good thing is when the weather is nice, it lasts longer.

$1.72 a gallon for heating oil really isn't that bad... It's a $1.79 here.. but its $1.65 /1.69 for a delivery of 150 gallons or more...

We need to do a delivery eventually.. we have a 1/2 tank of oil left.. ( we got it filled Dec 19) and we have gone exactly two months with half a tank..

We have an electronic thermostat, and set it comparable.. but lets keep it this way.. it NEVER goes over 65!
